The NFL has been trying to prevent such blows over the past four years, targeting improper technique and making a point to penalize and fine players for hits that leave them and their opponents vulnerable. Yet an Associated Press review of penalties through the first 11 weeks of the season found those hits are still prevalent. The AP reviewed 549 penalties, 491 of which fell under the category of major infractions: unnecessary roughness, unsportsmanlike conduct, roughing the passer, face masks and roughing the quarterback. Of the penalties charted over the first 162 games of the season, the AP identified 156 involving contact with the head and neck — an average of .962 per game. Of those, 38 were for head-wrenching face masks, 25 were for horse collars and 93 were for hits to the head. Quarterbacks (40) and receivers (38) shared the brunt of those hits almost equally, with players at other positions absorbing the other 15 blows. The numbers can be interpreted a variety of ways. The league declined comment, though it made a statement of sorts in the off-season when it decided against the 5 per cent hike in minimum fines, as allowed for in the union contract, after determining players were adjusting to the rules. A sentiment among the players the AP spoke to on offence was that they appreciate all the NFL has done to protect them. But, in the words of Titans running back Chris Johnson, they know that "sometimes you just cant control where you hit somebody." Defensive players acknowledged they have to do their part to make the game safer. "The face mask, thats going to happen. The pass interference, those things are going to happen. The stupid fouls, hitting the quarterbacks late and doing all the other stuff weve done, we have to eliminate it," said Titans safety Bernard Pollard, who has been fined $62,000 this season. But the defenders also reiterated a long-held belief that theyre held to a different standard than their offensive counterparts. "No doubt," Packers cornerback Tramon Williams said. "Guys are still getting penalized for clean shots, getting fined for clean shots, and theres no other explanation to it. Just like theyre holding us accountable for trying to make that right hit, theyve got to hold themselves accountable for making the right calls on the field, and making the right decision on who to fine and how much to fine." True to the defenders complaints, the AP review tallied 224 major infractions against the defence, with only 69 going against the offence. Similarly, penalties for low hits, which many thought would rise when defenders were forced to focus away from the head and neck, were relatively low — only 35. That small number included illegal cuts, chop and peelback blocks against the offence for hits on defenders — penalties the defensive players argue are called far too rarely and put their careers at as much risk as the above-the-shoulder hits. "Thhe way offences are playing now and the way running backs block now, I think its almost every play," Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton said when asked how often a defensive players legs get targeted.dddddddddddd New England tight end Rob Gronkowskis season ended abruptly Sunday with a knee injury when he took a low hit from Cleveland safety T.J. Ward. No penalty was called. Ward said he knows he cant go for the high hit. "But we have to play this game," Ward said. "We have to play it the way that they force us to, and unfortunately, it incurred an injury for him." Of the 35 penalties for low hits, 10 came against the defence for hits to the quarterbacks. The leagues propensity for protecting the passer continues at almost every spot on the field. Over the first 11 weeks, there were 32 flags for infractions against quarterbacks that didnt involve hits to the head or legs — for example, a late hit on a sliding quarterback. The NFL still makes a big splash out of suspensions and fines levied under the umbrella of protecting players. Ndamukong Suh, a multiple offender, got a $100,000 fine — largest in league history for on-field conduct — for his Week 2 low block on John Sullivan of the Vikings during an interception return. More recently, Titans safety Michael Griffin served a one-game suspension for a low hit on Oakland tight end Mychal Rivera. When asked what he could have done differently, Griffin said a league official "told me theres no clear black-and-white answer." "You have to start thinking about how youre going to hit the guy when you get there," Titans coach Mike Munchak said. "I think its very, very hard, very difficult. It definitely is necessary. I think it has helped the game in that way. But I think youve got to be careful in how these guys are fined and things like that going forward." Whatever the mixed messages, the NFL appears satisfied with the way players are adjusting to the rules, given the leagues decision not to raise fine amounts. Total fines issued by the NFL have declined by 32 per cent from 2009 to 2012 (668 to 451) and also decreased 4.5 per cent between 2011 and 2012 (472 to 451). Fines for illegal hits on quarterbacks have declined 46.4 per cent since 2009 (114 to 61). All of which points to a safer game — but a game that nevertheless, at least on average, puts at least one player in jeopardy in every game in every stadium every Thursday, Sunday and Monday. "Its a warrior game," said Broncos defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson, on injured reserve after suffering a dislocated hip on a play in which four players took turns blocking him, both high and low. "Youre going to have collisions. Youre going to have those injuries. You just try to do the best you can with them and play within the rules they set." ___ AP Sports Writers Genaro Armas in Green Bay, Wisc., Teresa Walker in Nashville, Tenn., Tom Withers in Cleveland, Joe Kay in Cincinnati and Joseph White in Washington contributed to this report. Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Steve Mason left a Friday practice session with an upper-body injury and is expected to miss his clubs back-to-back games in Toronto and Winnipeg this weekend. Mason, who made 31 saves in Thursdays 2-1 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers, appeared to suffer some kind of spasm, which was severe enough that he had to be taken off the ice by team personnel. Timing of this injury to the Philly starter could not have been worse, with the Flyers about to embark on an eight-game holiday road trip mired in sixth place in the Metropolitan Division at 11-14-6. Mason has gone just 6-10-5 this season, but holds a goals-against average of 2.49 and .921 save percentage. Though the club has not made it official, it is expected that Rob Zepp -- the starting netminder for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL -- will be recalled to back up Ray Emery. Whether its the second-year quarterbacks job to lose, well, offensive co-ordinator Marty Mornhinweg will see what effect Michael Vick has in whats expected to be a hotly contested competition this summer. "We brought Mike in to compete, to push Geno and to make Geno the very best he can make him, and I wanted to make sure Mike was ready for that," Mornhinweg said during a conference call Tuesday. "I think this thing is going to work beautifully. Well see." Smith started all 16 games for the Jets after incumbent Mark Sanchez was lost for the year after injuring his shoulder in the preseason. It was a roller-coaster ride for Smith and the Jets, as the young quarterback led four comeback victories in the fourth quarter or overtime in his first nine games, but then struggled mightily with six interceptions and no touchdowns in three straight losses. He bounced back with a solid final four games, with only two turnovers while leading the Jets to three wins and an 8-8 finish. "Were going to structure it a certain way," Mornhinweg said. "One thing I want to make sure of, that nothing impedes the young quarterbacks progression. Im talking about Geno. He progressed beautifully, and Im talking the last quarter of the season. Played like a winning quarterback, played at a high level." Not surprisingly, Mornhinweg acknowledged that Smith will take the first snaps with the starting offence when the team begins on-field practices in a few weeks. The Jets did the same last spring with Sanchez getting the first snaps over Smith. "Geno will get a few more reps, but not many (more)," Mornhinweg said. "Im going to try to do this thing right, and itll vary day to day, much like Ive done it in the past." Smith said last week hes taking the approach that hes the starter, and Vick acknowledged that when he signed with New York last month. But that doesnt mean Vick will be resigned to the fact he will be the backup, and thats one reason Mornhinweg was happy to be reunited with the veteran after their four seasons together in Philadelphia. "He has a really important role here," he said of Vick. "Hes 33 years old, and hes still got it. I look at him as a young 33. Hes still got it. ... When hes called uupon to play, Ive got great confidence in Mike.dddddddddddd." And, if it turns out its in a mentor-type role as it was for Vick last year with Nick Foles in Philadelphia, Mornhinweg anticipates no issues. "Mikes going to handle that real well," he said. "Hes going to do the right thing." Vick is extremely familiar with Mornhinwegs system, theoretically giving the Jets two starting-calibre quarterbacks who can run the offence with little drop-off in case of injury or ineffectiveness. "I would expect Geno to progress at a high rate with Mikes help," Mornhinweg said. "I want to get Mike back comfortable with our terminology, with our system, exactly how we want these things done, so its just that simple. Vick isnt the only newcomer to an offence that finished 25th overall and struggled with consistency last season. The Jets signed former Titans star Chris Johnson to bolster the backfield and former Broncos wide receiver Eric Decker to upgrade perhaps the teams weakest spot a year ago. Mornhinweg is intrigued by the pass-catching ability Johnson has, but also believes he can be the "electric, dynamic" type of running back he was during his best years in Tennessee now that hes healthy. "Thats a pretty good little 1-2 punch," Mornhinweg said of the Chris Ivory-Johnson pairing. Decker had 87 receptions for 11 touchdowns last season while catching passes from Peyton Manning. Meanwhile, the Jets leading receiver was Jeremy Kerley with 43 catches, and it was clear New York would need to get better at the position through free agency -- they also signed Jacoby Ford -- and the draft. "Last year," Mornhinweg said, "I thought was quite possibly the start of something special." NOTES: Defensive co-ordinator Dennis Thurman said "the skys the limit" for Dee Milliner, the Jets top pick last year who will assume the No. 1 CB spot with the departure of Antonio Cromartie. Milliner struggled at times while dealing with injuries, but Thurman believes he can become "a very good corner." ... While cornerback remains a potential target in the first round, Thurman expressed confidence in his current group. "Im comfortable with our cornerback situation," he said. "We have guys who can play." White NFL Jerseys Cheap Youth NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys 2020 Stitched NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Autographed Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys Discount Jerseys ' ' '

Federer defeated Gasquet in 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 fashion to give the visiting Swiss an insurmountable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five tie on an indoor red clay surface at Lilles Pierre Mauroy Stadium. The final scheduled match of the weekend between Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils was abandoned on Sunday. The 17-time Grand Slam king Federer has now captured every coveted title in mens tennis, with the exception of an Olympic gold medal in singles. He paired with Wawrinka to win a gold medal in doubles at the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing. Its not for me, Ive won enough in my career and did not need to tick any empty boxes, Federer said. Im just happy for everybody else. Im happy we could live a great tennis historic moment in our country. Federer pulled out of last weeks championship match at the prestigious ATP World Tour Finals in London because of a back injury, which appeared to slow him here on Friday, but not Sunday in Lille, where he would not be denied. The 33-year-old superstar was ultra clean on Day 3, striking seven aces, without committing a double fault, and breaking Gasquet five times, while not getting broken in the rout. The iconic Swiss struck 28 more winners in the 1- hour, 52-minute match (62-34), which ended with a backhand drop shot winner. Im happy I was able to stay calm and play a good match,, and Im really happy for the guys in the team, everybody worked incredibly hard to get me match ready, Federer said.dddddddddddd Stan has put in so much effort over the years and played an unbelievable weekend that gave me the opportunity today. Switzerland headed into Sundays reverse singles with a 2-1 lead against the host French after Federer and Wawrinka teamed up for a straight-set doubles victory over Gasquet and Julien Benneteau on Saturday. The capable Gasquet replaced Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the French draw on Sunday. The former Australian Open runner-up Tsonga, bothered by an arm injury, lost to this years Aussie champion Wawrinka in four sets in Fridays opening singles rubber, while Day 1s other match saw Monfils thrash the former world No. 1 and currently second-ranked Federer in straights. The Davis Cup, which was first contested in 1900, has been captured by France on nine occasions, while the Swiss were seeking that elusive maiden championship and became the 14th nation to do so. Switzerland finished as a runner-up back in 1992. The Swiss were captained by Severin Luthi, while the French were guided by former Aussie Open runner-up Arnaud Clement. Switzerland is now 3-10 all-time versus France in Davis Cup play. The two nations last met in a 2004 quarterfinal, which was won by the French. France was seeking its first title in 13 years. St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - T.J. Oshie scored the lone goal in the shootout to lift the St. Louis Blues to a 5-4 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Oshie, the Blues first shooter, patiently skated through the slot, got Cam Ward to bite on a fake and lifted a shot into the top of the net. Jake Allen made Oshies effort stand as he stopped all three shooters, including a slick glove save on Alexander Semin to end the game. Vladimir Tarasenko, Jaden Schwartz, Alexander Steen and Patrik Berglund all scored in regulation for the Blues, who won their fourth straight game. Despite the slow start, we came back in the second period, Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk said. It was a good effort getting back and getting on the right side of things. Allen stopped 19-of-20 shots in relief of Brian Elliott, who allowed three goals on 10 shots during the first period. Jeff Skinner and Victor Rask each tallied a goal and an assist, while Eric Staal and Riley Nash also lit the lamp for the Hurricanes, who were coming off a 5-2 win over Buffalo on Thursday. For the most part, I thought we did a good job, Carolina head coach Bill Peters said. Pleased to go into St. Louis on the road against a team that is playing very well and get a point out of that. Ward allowed four goals on 35 shots in defeat. Carolina took a 4-3 lead with under five minutes to play in the second. Nash gathered a bouncing puck at the left side of the net and snapped a shot that deflected off a few players in the crease and off the goal post before crossing the goal line. Tarasenko worked his way off the boards, released a shot in close and knocked the rebound into the net for a tie game with 13:14 to play. With under two minutes to play in overtime, Blues defenseman Jay Bouwmeester had his goal waved off as it was ruled Berglund made contact with Ward at the top of the crease. Carolina started the scoring just two minutes into the game. Rask slapped a shot from along the left boards that deflected off the skate of a St. Louis defender and into the net. Steen tied the game after he took a pass through the crease and fired a shot over the shoulder of Ward Skinner stripped a defender of the puck, stepped into the slot and sent a wrister over the glove of Elliott for a 2-1 lead at 7:23. The Hurricanes did not relent. Five minutes later, Staal charged into the zone on a breakaway and slipped a backhander past a sliding Elliott, giving Carolina a 3-1 lead and forcing the Blues to change goaltenders. St. Louis scored twice early in the second to tie the game. Schwartz intercepted a Carolina pass, faked a shot in the slot and jammed the puck past Wards stick at 4:07 and Berglund wristed a shot past a screened Ward for a 3-3 game 54 seconds later. Game Notes The NHL released its All-Star game roster on Saturday. Tarasenko and Shattenkirk will represent St. Louis, while defenseman Justin Faulk was selected from the Hurricanes ... Steen extended his point streak to six games ... Carolina forward Elias Lindholm played in his 100th NHL game ... The two teams will meet again on Jan. 30 at PNC Arena. Terry Rozier Jersey . RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil -- Brazil is bringing back Dunga to coach the national football team, four years after he was fired from the same job. Tuesdays hiring comes two weeks after Brazil was eliminated from the World Cup in a humiliating 7-1 loss to Germany in the semifinals. The 50-year-old Dunga replaces Luiz Felipe Scolari, who resigned last week after Brazil failed to win footballs premier event on its home soil. It could be a difficult road for the former defensive midfielder. Several polls released in the last few days show he is highly unpopular, by margins of at least 3-to-1. "When it comes to the survey, we have to overcome that," Dunga said. "I think they (fans) will eventually understand the work we are planning, and I dont feel rejected. ... Im not going to change peoples mind set, but I will change the way people think about me." He also brought up the name of former South African President Nelson Mandela. "Without firing a gun, he changed how people thought about him," Dunga added. The Brazilian football confederation confirmed the appointment during a news conference at its headquarters in suburban Rio de Janeiro, but gave no details about salary. CBF President Jose Maria Marin indicated he wanted Dunga to continue until the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Dunga gave a blunt evaluation of Brazils situation. "Were no longer the best," he said. "Were all aware of this. We cant tell our fans that were the best." Dunga came to the job for the first time in 2006 with no management experience. He was criticized for the teams physical style of play and conservative tactics and spent time Tuesday suggesting he might be different this time. He said his focus was already on the next World Cup. Brazil will also play next year in the Copa America -- the South American championship -- and in a special Copa America edition in 2016 played in the United States. "My first time as coach, I was asked to rescue the teams value and get results," he said. "This second time around, the focus is on preparing the side for the 2018 World Cup." Dungas real name is Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri. His nickname Dunga literally means "Dopey" in Portuguese -- the same as one of the characters in Disneys Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs -- and was given to him during childhood because of his small stature. He was the captain of Brazils 1994 World Cup-winning team, and coached the national team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. He was dismissed after Brazil lost 2-1 in the quarterfinals to the Netherlands. "He has shown his capacity to lead the Brazil team, not only in words but also in numbers, that he has all the requisites and the capacity to lead the Brazil team again," confederation president Jose Maria Marin said. "It was a decision made with the participation of everyone here at this table in a show of unity and total integration aimed at great conquests in the future." Dungas returned was linked to the naming of Gilmar Rinaldi as the new technical director, replacing Carlos Alberto Parreira. Rinaldi, who sat next to Dunga on Tuesday, was a goalkeeper on the 94 team and has recently worked as a player agent. Dunga was in charge of 60 matches as national team coach in his first stint. Brazil won 42, drew 12 and lost six. Brazils image took a battering in the 7-1 loss to Germany. Many said it was worse than Brazils 2-1 loss to Uruguay in the final game of the 1950 World Cup, which was played at the Maracana Stadium in Rio. The loss against Germany broke several records and was one of the worst in Brazils history. The loss was also the first in a competitive match at home since 1975. Jeff Locke Jersey . CINCINNATI, Ohio -- Justin Martin had 19 points and a career-high 16 rebounds on Saturday, and Xavier led most of the way during a 75-69 victory over No. 9 Creighton in front of the largest crowd in the 14-year history of the Musketeers arena. It was a long-awaited rematch for Xavier, (20-9, 10-6), which lost one of the Big Easts most wide-open games at Creighton in January. Martin led the way. The junior guard helped Xavier control the tempo and build a 13-point lead early in the second half that was more than enough. Creighton (23-5, 13-3) couldnt catch up despite 27 points by Doug McDermott, who leads the nation in scoring. McDermott had 35 points during the Bluejays 95-89 win at home on Jan. 12, a game that showed the reconfigured Big East was a whole different conference. Xavier had more going for it in the rematch. Semaj Christon scored 21 points, Dee Davis added 15, and the Musketeers shot 50 per cent from the field. Xavier got its first victory over a Top 10 team since it beat No. 8 Indiana 80-65 on Nov. 24, 2007. Right after their loss at Creighton in January, several Musketeers said they couldnt wait for the rematch. Xavier sold standing-room tickets for the first time in the Cintas Centers 14 seasons, resulting in a record crowd of 10,483. Xavier led for most of the first half, pushing the lead to six points on several occasions. The Musketeers built it to double-digits with a seven-point run that featured Davis 3-pointer and a pair of baskets by Christon, making it 41-30 with 2:22 left in the half. The Musketeers took a 43-34 lead into halftime despite not shooting a free throw. Instead, the Musketeers shot 57.6 per cent from the field and went 5 of 6 from beyond the arc. Martin led the way, getting nine points and matching his career high with 12 rebounds. Martin came out aggressive again to start the second half. He hit a pair of 3s and Xaviers first two free throws for a 54-42 lead with 15:49 left. At that point, Xavier was 8 of 10 from beyond the arc, with Creighton more concerned about stopping drives to the basket. Christon fell down while nearly getting a steal, got up and swiped Creightons next pass and was fouled as he headed for the basket, bringing the crowd to its feet. His free throw gave Xavier a 13-point lead. Creighton couldnt make any headway as Xavier controlled the boards and pushed the pace for layups. McDermott scored 11 points in the first 7 minutes of the half, but nobody else hit any shots consistently. Xavier finally hit a cold spell, and Creighton took advantage with a 10-2 spurt. McDermotts fall-away 3-pointer cut it to 61-58 with 5:18 to go, prompting a Xavier timeout. Davis made an uncontested 3, and Jalen Reynolds drove for a lay-in that rebuilt the lead to 68-60. Creighton never got closer than five points the rest of the way. Creighton redshirt freshman guard Isaiah Zierden went down hard on a fast-break play in the first half and hurt his right knee. He was on crutches in the second half with ice wrapped on the knee. Zierden averages 11 minutes and 3.3 points. Custom Bears Jerseys . SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The San Jose Sharks showed they have what it takes to win close games as well as laughers. Rookie Tomas Hertl scored his league-leading seventh goal before leaving with an injury and Brent Burns got the tiebreaker in the third period to lead the Sharks to their fifth straight win to open the season, 3-2 over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. Patrick Marleau tied the game with a power-play goal late in the second period and Antti Niemi made 21 saves as the Sharks won a nail biter after outscoring the opposition by 16 goals in the first four games. "We knew it wasnt going to be the same way every night," Marleau said. "It was going to be ups and downs, and tonight was a good challenge. We looked at it as a challenge." Zach Smith and Bobby Ryan scored for the Senators, and Robin Lehner matched a franchise record with 47 saves in his first start of the season. Ottawa has lost three straight after winning the first game on their season-opening six-game road trip. "I thought for a lot of the 5-on-5 time we did a good job," Ryan said. "Not early but we found our way. We did a lot of good things, just not enough to win." After trailing for less than a minute in their last three games, the Sharks showed they could play from behind after Ottawa took a 2-1 lead late in the first period. With the Senators playing the front end of a back-to-back, coach Paul MacLean gave backup Lehner the nod and saved starter Craig Anderson for Sundays game in Anaheim. Lehner played well, stopping a breakaway by Brent Burns midway through the second period. But he had no chance when San Jose tied it on its first power play of the night. Matt Irwin put a shot on net and the puck squirted out of the crease after a scramble in front of Lehner. Marleau got the puck alone to the left of the net and converted a backhander for his fourth goal of the season. The Sharks took the lead just after the end of their third power play when Joe Thornton fed Burns, who was alone in front for a 3-2 lead with 12:52 to play. "I heard him as soon as I got the puck," Thornton said. "It was just kind of throw it in an area and he beat his defenceman back to the net and he buried it." San Jose played with the man advantage for more than 9 minutes of a 19-minute stretch spanning the second and third periods. "Robin played real good," MacLean said. "We just cant continue to take penalties, especially the undisciplined kind, the ones we are taking. You cant expect the goalie to keep killing them off." The game was not all positive for San Jose because of the injury to Hertl, who has become a teenage sensation in San Jose after scoring six times in his previous two home games. Hertl had to be helped to the dressing room after taking a hard hit from Clarke MacArthur late in the second period and did not return. "Hes a little bit sore but I think hell be fine tomorrow," coach Todd McLellan said. Another rookie, Matt Nieto, replaced Hertl on Thorntons line and got an assist on Burns go-ahead goal. The Sharks got off to a fast start behind their sensational rookie when Hertl knocked in a rebound of Dan Boyles point shot for his seventh goal in five games this season. San Jose controlled the play for much of the opening period but ended up trailing after one when Ottawa used a strong finish to score two goals. The first came out of nowhere when Chris Phillips shot hit off the end boards and came out into the slot to Smith, who shot it past Niemi. Three minutes later, the Senators took advantage of a high-sticking penalty against Andrew Desjardins to take the lead when Ryan one-timed a cross-ice pass from Jason Spezza past Niemi. NOTES: The Sharks 24 goals are their most ever through five games, surpassing last seasons total of 23. ... San Jose has had at least 47 shots three times in five games. No other team has had that many in a game once. ... D Joe Corvo was scratched for the Senators after being hit in the left eye by a puck in the morning skate. Eric Gryba played in his place. Mackays position at the Premier League club looked doomed earlier this week after Malaysian owner Vincent Tan sent the manager an email requesting him to stand down or be fired. But Mackay, who insisted he would not resign, has been handed a reprieve with the hierarchy wanting to heal the rift. "As things stand Malky is in charge for the foreseeable future and will be until something else happens," chairman Mehmet Dalman said on Sunday on the club website. "I dont want to go game by game on this, with people asking if he will be in charge." Fans reacted with fury to Tans attempt to oust Mackay, showing their support for the manager and disdain for the owner throughout a 3-1 loss at Liverpool on Saturday. Unsettled by the supporters reaction, Dalman appealed for a display of unity at the next Premier League game against Southampton on Thursday. "If I had one wish for Boxing Day, its that they dont hold up Tan Out or Malky In banners, but rather one that says Talk to each other," Dalman said. "The crisis for the time being is over. The emphasis as of today is for us to crreate space and dialogue.dddddddddddd" Tan had already alienated some fans by changing the clubs colours from blue to red and adopting a new crest. Tan and Mackay clashed over the dismissal of head of recruitment Iain Moody in October, and the damage is yet to be repaired. "We managed to create space for everyone to work together back in October and we have to see if we can do that again in order to move forward," Dalman said. "At least we have a platform for dialogue, which gives us an opportunity to try to work our way through this. "If we wish to work towards a reconciliation, Vincent Tan has offered us that opportunity to move towards that. If it works, it works. If it doesnt, it doesnt ... lets see if we can fix it. We cant keep having the club under a cloud." In the unusually blunt and frank statement from a Premier League club, Dalman made it clear that replacing Mackay would be no problem, while denying he had approached potential replacements yet. "As chairman, (I) have not initiated any dialogue with anybody else," Dalman said. "Can we go out and get another manager? Of course we can." Mackay led Cardiff into the Premier League for the first time last season. The Welsh club is four points above the drop zone. RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes talked in the locker room before Monday nights game about how they felt they were due for a win against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Columbus had won seven straight in the series, including a dramatic comeback victory the last time the teams met in Raleigh at the end of December. "We knew we owed em one," Eric Staal said. "We wanted to pay them back for some of the good games they played against us." Staal and his brother, Jordan, helped Carolina make that pregame prediction a reality, combining to score three goals in a 2:47 span in the third period and lifting the Hurricanes to a 3-2 victory. Jordan Staal scored the tiebreaker with 5:55 remaining after Eric had scored twice to help the Hurricanes erase a two-goal deficit and earn their fourth consecutive victory. Anton Khudobin made 22 saves. Carolina moved one point ahead of Columbus in the congested Metropolitan Division with the win. "We knew it was a big game," Carolina coach Kirk Muller said. "You dont want to dwell a lot on it -- let the guys figure it out." R.J. Umberger and Derek MacKenzie scored for the Blue Jackets. Columbus lost its second straight after winning eight in a row. "I dont know if we were trying to hold on or if we were playing the game to win," Columbus coach Todd Richards said. "We gave up three goals in less than 3 minutes. For 57 minutes, I thought we managed it pretty well. Those three minutes, thats the game." After shutting out Carolina in the teams last meeting, reigning Vezina Trophy winner Sergei Bobrovsky made 32 saves for Columbus. On the game-winner, Jordan Staal rushed into the zone against defenceman Ryan Murray. After cutting to the middle of the ice, he nudged a backhander past Bobrovsky while fighting off Murray. "It was a fun comeback," Jordan Staal said. "I had some speed coming low, and just kind of went for it from there. I tried to get my reach out there." Trailing 2-0, Eric Staal got the Hurricanes comeback started when he beat Bobrovsky between the legs after a pass from Alexander Semin. Staal then tied the score with 7:42 remaining after Jiri Tlutsy fed him in the slot. Staals shot fluttered, but the puck sneaked inside the post. Columbus jumped on Carolina in the first period, scoring goals 17 seconds apart to take an early two-goal lead. MacKenzie got the Blue Jackets first goal. Fedor Tyutin took a wrist shot from the slot that hit the post. The rebounded bounced to MacKenzie, who put the puck in the goal before Khudobin could get back in position. After the ensuing faceoff at centre ice, the Blue Jackets forced a turnover along the boards in the Canes zone. The puck eventually made its way to Umberger, who was alone in front of the net, and he scored his third goal in four games. "We came out of the gate well; we were playing well and we went after them," Richards said. After scoring goals on two of their first three shots, the Blue Jackets continued to control much of the action, taking the games first seven shots before Carolina asserted itself. The Hurricanes tied a season high with 17 shots in the second period. NOTES: Columbus came into the game with the best winning percentage in Eastern Conference for the month of January (.818). ... Justin Houston, their talented young pass rusher, is entering the final year of his rookie deal. Hes due to make only $1.4 million, a bargain for a linebacker who has piled up 26 1/2 sacks in three seasons. And in whats believed to be a negotiating ploy, Houston not only skipped three weeks of voluntary workouts, but hes also skipping this weeks three-day minicamp. The Chiefs practiced Tuesday for the first time since releasing cornerback Brandon Flowers. The move last Friday saves the Chiefs about $7.25 million against the salary cap this season and $7.5 million next season, money that could be used in a deal for Houston. Of course, the Chiefs have two other pending free agents in quarterback Alex Smith and centre Rodney Hudson. That means they might have to get creative if they want to keep all of them. In the meantime, first-round pick Dee Ford got first-team reps in place of Houston during Tuesdays practice. Marcus Cooper and Ron Parker split time at cornerback in place of Flowers and fellow starter Sean Smith, who was excused from the workout with an illness. "Every day I go out there as if Im the starter, so I cant say its any different if (Flowers) is here or isnt here," Cooper said. "Just keep grinding, getting better every day." Cooper was a revelation early last season, a seventh-round pick claimed off waivers from San Francisco who wound up starting six games and picking off three passes. He went through a rookie luull midseason, but came on toward the end, giving the Chiefs front office a sense of confidence that they would be able to withstand Flowers release.dddddddddddd. Still, the change brings even more instability to the defensive backfield. The Chiefs already had allowed starting free safety Kendrick Lewis and backup defensive back Quintin Demps to sign elsewhere, opening a couple of holes they are hoping to fill internally. Husain Abdullah and Sanders Commings appear to be the first in line. "We have guys who can step up," Commings said. Tight end Travis Kelce, wide receiver Kyle Williams and cornerback David Van Dyke did individual workouts and the install period, but were otherwise limited. Kelce is coming off knee surgery, Williams a torn ACL and Van Dyke a hamstring injury. Rookie running back DeAnthony Thomas appeared to be overcome by the heat and humidity on a warm afternoon. He chugged water on a knee after one series of plays, then took a swing pass to the end zone, where he collapsed. He wound up walking to the shade and spent several minutes with a trainer before heading to the locker room. He did not return to the field. Thomas, a fourth-round pick out of Oregon, has been unable to join the Chiefs for workouts since rookie minicamp because of an NFL rule that prohibited him from working out until his school graduates. HOUSTON -- Matt Dominguez provided a big boost to the Houston Astros on Sunday. Dominguez homered twice and had four RBIs, helping the Astros to defeat the Chicago White Sox 8-2. Dominguez hit his sixth and seventh homers of the season off White Sox lefty John Danks (3-4) in the third and fifth innings. The first was hit to deep left-centre on a full count that followed a double by Dexter Fowler. The second was hit to the left-field Crawford Boxes, also with Fowler on base, putting the Astros up 8-1. "Hes a guy that can turn around anybodys fastball," Astros manager Bo Porter said of Dominguez. "Hes got power to all fields." Backed by early run support, Astros right-hander Brad Peacock (1-4) earned his first win of the season, allowing two runs and five hits and four walks, while striking out five in 6 2-3 innings. The Astros scored two runs or fewer in six of Peacocks previous nine outings entering Sunday. Since Peacock became a starter on April 20, the offence provided 13 runs of support in his previous five starts. "Our hitters came out swinging," Peacock said. "Its a big confidence builder for them and a big confidence builder for us." The Astros have won four of their past five games, while the White Sox have lost six of eight. After taking two of three from the Rangers and White Sox, Houston has won back-to-back series for the first time since last August. The Astros improved to 12-3 when hitting two or more home runs. They are 1-17 when they fail to hit a homer. After a Chris Carter homer in the second inning gave the Astros an early lead, Jonathan Villar sparked a rally with a two-RBI single that scored Jesus Guzman and L.J. Hoes. Guzman advanced to second on a throwing error by left fielder Alejandro De Aza then stole third and scored when catcher Adrian Nietos attempt to throw him out skipped into the outfield. The Astros had 10 hits in the game and have had at least nine hits in eight straight games, the clubs longest such streak since 2008. "They were swinging it good," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "Any time you get the ball up, especially in this ballpark, youre going to create a lot of problems." Villar later left the game in the seventh inning with a right hand injury, but Porter said the injury was not serious. The White Sox were playing without first baseman Jose Abreu, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with ankle tendinitis. "Everything gets frustrating, especially when you have games like this," Ventura said of Chicagos two errors. "It just needs to be cleaned up." Danks allowed eight runs -- seven earned -- and 10 hits and three walks while striking out seven in 4 2-3 innings. He allowed at least one homer for his fourth consecutive start and fell to 1-3 in that stretch after allowing just one homer through five starts in April, when he was 2-1. "I did a terrible job of keeping the ball in the ballpark," Danks said. Notes: Despite having the worst record in the AL at 16-28, the Astros are 15-11 when hitting home runs. The Astros rank third in the majors and second in the AL with 15 multi-homer games. ... Dexter Fowler has walked in eight straight games, Houstons longest streak since 2006. ... Astros prospect C Brian Holberton hit for the cycle at Class A Quad Cities, going 5 for 5 with two singles, a double, triple, two-run homer and five RBIs in a 10-3 win. ... The Astros begin a 10-game road trip to Anaheim, Seattle and Kansas City, and the White Sox travel to Kansas City for a three-game series. CHICAGO -- A person familiar with the situation says the Chicago Cubs and reliever Jose Veras were closing in on a $4 million, one-year contract. The person spoke Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because the deal with the 33-year-old right-hander was pending a physical. Veras would get $3.85 million next season, and the Cubs have a $5.5 million option for 2014 with a $150,000 buyout. He can make an additional $750,000 annually in performance bonuses based on games finished. Veras was 0-5 with a 3.02 ERA in 67 games last season for the Houston Astros and Detroit Tigers, who acquired him on July 29. Detroit declined a $4 million option on Veras in November and opted to pay a $150,000 buyout. Zane Gonzalez Jersey . 22. Spiller gave a knowing wink when assessing the impact the Buffalo Bills dynamic "Clemson Connection" made in a home-opening 29-10 win over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. "Yeah, thats what we do," Spiller said. "The only thing I was thinking was, Man, what we couldve done if we played together in college." Spiller, the Bills 2010 first-round pick out of Clemson, scored on a 102-yard kickoff return on the teams first touch of the ball in the third quarter. And first-round pick Sammy Watkins, the latest Tigers player to join Buffalos ranks, capped the next drive with a 12-yard touchdown catch. The Dolphins (1-1) had no answers against their AFC East rival. Worse still, Miami sustained a potentially big blow when running back Knowshon Moreno, a key off-season addition, did not return after hurting his left elbow 11 minutes in. The injury looked serious, though coach Joe Philbin had no update on Morenos status following the game. The Bills provided electricity to a charged-up crowd during a week the franchise celebrated its proud past and promising future. The game began with a tribute to Hall of Fame owner Ralph Wilson, who died in March. And it came during an uplifting week in which the franchises long-term future was essentially secured: Wilsons trust reached a "definitive agreement" to sell the team to NHL Buffalo Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula for an NFL-record $1.4 billion. Bills President Russ Brandon nearly broke down in tears afterward. "It was one of the most special days of my career," Brandon said. "A great tribute to Ralph on Friday, and then to cap it off today with a tremendous win, and the pregame ceremony. It doesnt get any better." Dan Carpenter hit five field goals and the Bills had four sacks in helping Buffalo get off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2011, and only the sixth time since 2000. The game was decided during a 9:10 span in the third quarter, and after Caleb Sturgis capped the Dolphins opening drive by hitting a 34-yard field goal to cut Buffalos lead to 9-3. Spiller struck first on the ensuing kickoff by bursting through a hole up the right hash mark. Kelvin Sheppard was the only Dolphin to get his hand on Spiller, who had a clear path to the end zone once Sturgis mmissed a diving tackle at the Buffalo 35.dddddddddddd The Dolphins replied with Mike Wallace making a one-handed catch for a 7-yard touchdown. Watkins, with his first career touchdown, capped the Bills next drive with a 12-yard catch set up by Spillers 47-yard run. EJ Manuel hit Watkins on a crossing pattern over the middle, and the receiver got the ball just inside the right pylon. Watkins finished with eight catches for 117 yards, and Spiller added 69 yards rushing. Manuel went 16 of 26 for 202 yards in building on his promising performance in a season-opening 23-20 overtime win at Chicago. Very little went right for the Dolphins offence, which failed to carry over momentum from last weekends 33-20 win over New England. The big blow came when Moreno was hurt on his first carry. Driving up the middle for a 4-yard gain, Moreno was initially hit on the right side by Nickell Robey. Nigel Bradham then struck Moreno from the left, hitting him directly in the arm. Moreno, with Denver last season, had an NFL-leading 134 yards rushing entering Week 2. "Obviously, we would love to have him, but you have to deal with those things," Philbin said. "Injuries happen, so it didnt really impact the game plan a whole lot. Other guys have to step up." They didnt. Morenos backup Lamar Miller finished with 11 carries for 46 yards. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill went 31 of 49 for 241 yards with a touchdown and interception. The Dolphins were limited to six first downs and 62 yards offence in the opening half, and never advanced past their 41. Their special-team play was particularly sloppy. Aside from Spillers touchdown, Brandon Fields had a punt blocked in the first quarter, and Jarvis Landry muffed a punt in the fourth quarter. "We just didnt play well. We didnt get first downs," Tannehill said. "We didnt rush the ball. We didnt throw the ball. We didnt catch the ball. We didnt do anything well." NOTES: The Dolphins have lost three straight to Buffalo, their longest losing streak since going 0-4 from 2006-07. ... Carpenter hit five of six field goal attempts, the longest from 38 yards. He hit the left crossbar on a 31-yarder. ... DEs Mario Williams and Jerry Hughes, and DTs Kyle Williams and Stefan Charles each had a sack. With last months draft in the books, the National Hockey League released its list of players to watch for 2015 and there are already a couple of well-known names in the mix. To no surprise, Erie Otters centre Connor McDavid and United States National Development Team centre Jack Eichel are on the list of North American players. Both have long been touted as the leaders in what could be the deepest draft class in over a decade. Two summers ago, McDavid was granted exceptional player status and was made eligible for the Ontario Hockey League draft at the age of 15. Last season, he scored 28 goals and 99 points in in 56 regular season games and already has 53 goals and 165 points in 119 games. McDavid is also a lock to return with Canadas National Junior Team this December after playing in last years tournament as a 16-year-old. Eichel, who signed a letter of intent in April to play this season with Boston University, led the USNTDP Under-18 team with 32 goals and 71 points in 43 games. Other players of note include defenceman Noah Hanifin of the U.S. Under-17 team, blueliner Oliver Kylington of Farjestad and Liberec centre Pavel Zacha from the Czech Republic. Dennis Smith Jr. Jersey . Last years runner-up, Sara Errani, also reached the last eight in straight sets. Flipkens converted all four of her break points against Meusburger, and the third-seeded Errani broke Karin Knapps serve five times to win their all-Italian match 6-4, 6-3. Dennis Smith Jr. White Jersey . Detroits powerful offence made that unnecessary. Scherzer allowed two hits and struck out seven, and the Tigers backed their star right-hander with three early homers in an 8-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night. http://www.mavericksteamofficial.com/den...vericks-jersey/. Pedroia reached the milestone with a little panache, hitting a grand slam in the sixth inning and propelling the Boston Red Sox to a 7-1 win over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night. Dennis Smith Jr. Mavericks Jersey . The Earthquakes (6-9-7) were coming off a 5-0 loss at home last Saturday to FC Dallas. Even with the draw, the Sounders (13-7-3) climbed back into a tie for both the Western Conference and overall top spot in MLS. Seattle, West co-leader Real Salt Lake and East leader Sporting Kansas City all have 42 points. Dennis Smith Jr. Authentic Jersey . Bjoergen pulled away from Swedens Charlotte Kalla on the final straight to win in 38 minutes, 33.6 seconds and defend her title from the 2010 Vancouver Games. Kalla was 1.8 seconds back. Heidi Weng of Norway took bronze. TORONTO -- Toronto manager John Gibbons placed his trust in two new Blue Jays and was rewarded for his confidence. With Danny Valencia hitting a single and Nolan Reimold following with the game-winning double in the 10th inning, the Blue Jays came back for a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Saturday. The Blue Jays tied it in the ninth on a single by Dioner Navarro against Tigers closer Joe Nathan. Valencia and Reimold, both unheralded acquisitions last month, entered the game as pinch-hitters in the eighth inning and struck out as the final two batters to face Tigers right-hander Max Scherzer, who had 11 strikeouts. But when Valencia and Reimold were set to hit as the first two batters in the 10th, Gibbons gave bench coach DeMarlo Hale a little nudge. "I said to DeMarlo at the start of that inning, weve got those two new news guys here, usually you see in the first couple of weeks in a new place they do something big," Gibbons said. "Its just kind of the way it happens, they both did it." Valencia, acquired in a trade with the Kansas City Royals on July 26, led off with an infield single into the hole at shortstop against reliever Joba Chamberlain (1-5). Valencia has a hit in seven of his first 10 games with the Blue Jays. Reimold, claimed off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles on July 6, took a called first strike, fouled off the next one and pounded an 0-2 slider that caught too much of the plate to left centre for the winning hit. "I was expecting a breaking ball but I was expecting it to be a ball trying to get me to chase," Reimold said. "So thankfully I was ready to hit and put it in play. Ill take it. I was happy to come through." Its not the first game that Reimold has won for the Blue Jays. After coming off a calf injury that put him on the disabled list, he hit two home runs, including the game winner, at Houston on July 31. His hit on Saturday made a winner of left-handed reliever Aaron Loup (4-3) who pitched the top of the 10th after rookie right-hander Marcus Stroman pitched a career-high nine innings. The win also gave the Blue Jays a boost after the Tigers scored three runs on two home runs in the ninth inning in a 5-4 comeback win on Friday. "The whole team played a great game, Stroman pitched awesome," Reimold said. "I had a feeling we were going to pull it out," Stroman said. "Everyone was super confident in the dugout, guys kind of had a buzz about them that knew we were going to get the job done and it ended up working out. As everything was unfolding, I was just sitting there excited." The Blue Jays (62-56) and Tigers (63-51) have split the first two games of the series with the rubber match on Sunday. Stroman, who had a good sinking fastball Saturday, allowed four hits, three walks and two runs while striking out four. He is the first Blue Jays rookie to go nine innings since David Bush on Oct. 1, 2004, against the Neew York Yankees.dddddddddddd Scherzer, who has had 11 strikeouts in a start one other time this season and has a season high of 13, said he was spent after holding the Blue Jays to four hits, no walks and one run after eight innings. "I was done," Scherzer said. "Theres nothing else to it. I was done Im not going to sit here and play second guess the manager. I was done. I looked at Brad (manager Ausmus) and he had his hand out so I shook it and I was done. Thats all there is to talk about. I emptied the tank to get through the last inning." Nathan replaced Scherzer for the bottom of the ninth but could not hold the 2-1 lead. Jose Reyes led off with a single, his second hit of the game, and stole second. A review of the play at second base upheld the safe call. Melky Cabreras fly out to deep right sent Reyes to third. Jose Bautista was walked intentionally. Navarro rapped a 3-1 pitch on the ground to right field to tie the game at 2-2. The Blue Jays had a chance to win it without going to an extra innings. A wild pitch put runners at second and third. Colby Rasmus walked to load the bases and right-hander Joakim Soria replaced Nathan. Juan Francisco popped out to shortstop and Munenori Kawasaki grounded out to first to send the game to an extra inning. Soria came to the mound for the 10th but left with a side strain before throwing a pitch and was replaced by Chamberlain. "Were not sure how bad it is," Ausmus said. "We wont know until tomorrow." Victor Martinez sliced a two-out, two-run double to left field in the sixth inning as the Tigers took a 2-0 lead. Ian Kinsler, who singled with two out, and Miguel Cabrera, who walked, scored. The Blue Jays answered with a run in their sixth. Reyes singled with two out and Cabrera sent him home with a double to left centre. It was Cabreras second hit of the game as he extended his hit streak to four games. That set up the late-inning heroics. "It was a great day all the way around," Gibbons said. "It was really the only way to end it." Notes: Announced attendance at Rogers Centre was 45,927, ninth sellout of the season. à Blue Jays DH Adam Lind (right foot fracture) was not in the lineup Saturday for the Gulf Coast League game in Florida. He is still expected to join the Blue Jays in Seattle for a three-game series against the Mariners that opens on Monday. Lind went 2-for-2 on Thursday in his first rehabilitation outing in the GCL but took Friday off as a precaution after he experienced some back tightness. àFormer Blue Jays OF Rajai Davis had two singles on Saturday for the Tigers. He had two doubles in Detroits 5-4 win on Friday. àLHP David Price (11-8, 3.11 earned-run average), who was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays in a trade on July 31, will pitch the series finale on Sunday for the Tigers against Blue Jays LHP Mark Buehrle (11-8, 3.27 ERA). The Toronto Blue Jays entire plans for the approaching July 31 non-waiver trade deadline may have been drastically altered, if not shut down, by Sundays injury news. Brett Lawrie is likely gone for 4-6 weeks with a broken finger on his right hand, and Jose Bautista is possibly following him to the disabled list with a hamstring issue on his right leg. Before those injuries and during that ugly 3-7 road trip, there was talk the Blue Jays were scouting Rays ace lefty David Price and might have an interest in the multi-talented Ben Zobrist, who can play nearly any position on the diamond. Both players would be an immense help to the Blue Jays, but the odds of either ending up in Toronto are slim and none. It all goes back to that old cliché about not trading within your division. This is Tampa Bays 17th year of existence. Over that span, the Devil Rays/Rays have only made four trades within the American League East, and it might even be a stretch to say even one of those was significant. In fact, they have made only one deal apiece with the Yankees and Red Sox. The Yankees deal goes back over eight years to May 24, 2006. The Yanks bought Nick Green from the Rays. Thats it. The Boston trade goes back even further to July 21,1999. The Rays dealt Dominican-born reliever Julio Santana to the Reds Sox for a player to be named later (Will Silverthorn) and cash. Santana spent seven years in the Majors - including a brief stint with Montreal - but never did pitch for the Red Sox after that deal. The Rays have made three trades with Baltimore but none since August 7, 2009. Arguably the biggest deal between the Rays and Os happened March 29, 1999, when Tampa Bay dealt right hander Jason Johnson to the Orioles for Danny Clyburn and a minor leaguer by the name of Bolivar Volquez. Again, hardly a blockbuster. On August 7, 2007 the Rays picked up catcher Gregg Zahn from the 0s for a player to be named later, named Rhyne Hughes. Zahn was 38 at the time and about a year from calling it a career. All of which brings us to the Blue Jays. They havent made a trade with the Rays in nearly 10 years. On December 12, 2004, they sent catcher Kevin Cash to Tampa Bay for right hander Chad Gaudin. The deal with the Rays that was supposed to have the biggest impact for the Jays happened on July 31, 2000. The Blue Jays looking to add some pitching depth for the stretch run dealt second base prospect Brent Abernathy to the Rays for right hander Steve Trachsel and veteran reliever Mark Guthrie. The deal failed to push Jim Fregosis Jays over the top. Overall, if you look at all eight of the deals the Rays have made without their division, only one - the Trachsel-Guthrie for Abernathy trade - actually came on the July 31 deadline. Most of the trades were inconsequential and none involved a star player. The Rays, as mentioned, havent even made a deal in the East since August 7, 2009, so dont hold your breath waiting for the Jays or any other team in the East to get Price or Zobrist. If either or both are dealt, theyre likely wind up in the National League. The San Diego Padres will be holding a special ceremony this Thursday to honour Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn, who passed away after a long battle with cancer. I only had the pleasure of watching him up close and in person three times. The first was at the All-Star game in 1998 at Coors Field in Denver. I was so impressed with his smile, his laugh, his personality and his limitless skill with the bat. I was lucky enough to watch that game from a bunker just below field level in right field. We were able to look thought a glass partition and see Tony Gwynn playing right field right in front of us. It was like we were playing right alongside him on every ball hit to right. It was an unforgettable experience. I saw him again in the 1998 World Series, where he might have been the best player on the diamond even though the Yankees swept the Padres four straight. In 1999, I was at the final All-Star game of the last century at Fenway Park in Boston. The most incredible moment was watching all the All-Stars gather at the mound before the game when Red Sox legend Ted Williams threw out the ceremonial first pitch from his wheelchair. Tony Gwynn was right at his side. That will always be one of my greatest sporting memories. The Angels put 42-year-old Raul Ibanez on waivers for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release. If this indeed is the end for Raul as a player, what a career he had. He was a 36th-round draft pick of Seattle back in 1992. He went on to hit .273 for his career with five different organizations with 2019 hits and 3030 homers. He was one of those rare individuals who seemed to get better with age. In 2005, at age 33 he played the entire 162 game schedule. He slugged 29 home runs with Seattle last year at age 41. He also made it to the postseason in five different seasons. If he wants to remain in the game, there are bound to be plenty of organizations willing to give him a chance. If the Jays are going to stay in playoff contention, they have to pick it up against the East - 47 of their remaining 85 games are against their own division and they have slipped to 15-14 versus the East. Baltimore is a division-best 20-13 against the East, while the Yankees are second at 15-10 and the Jays are third. Phil Jackson Jersey . -- Jake Peavy arrived at Bostons spring training complex on Monday with a large white bandage covering his left index finger, the result of a weekend accident. Carmelo Anthony Jersey . -- Canadian womens amateur golf champion Brooke Henderson is a little less starstruck as she prepares for her second career appearance at an LPGA Tour major event. http://www.nbaknicksauthority.com/tracy-...ks-jersey-c-18/. Their 9-19 record remains identical to the crosstown rivals in Brooklyn and trails both Toronto and Boston in the Atlantic Division. Raymond Felton, their declining point guard, is back on the sideline nursing his third injury of the season. Allan Houston Jersey . -- Oakland Athletics starting pitchers Jarrod Parker and A. Courtney Lee Jersey . -- Orleans Darkwa ran in from 1 yard with 1:45 left, and the Miami Dolphins rallied from two scores down in the final minutes to beat the Dallas Cowboys 25-20 on Saturday night.Montreal Canadiens 3 Winnipeg Jets 0 WINNIPEG - After a 3-0 win over New Jersey Sunday it was the Jets on the wrong end of that score in this game. Carey Price stopped 36 shots for his first shutout of the season and 20th of his career. It was yet another poor start for the Jets as Brandon Prust scored 2:06 in. The goal came before the Jets were able to get the puck into the Montreal zone. P.K. Subban made it 2-0 at 11:28 to extend his point streak to five (2-6-8). It was the second time in this homestand that the Jets fell behind early (3-0 after one vs. Dallas). Visiting teams all talk about taking the MTS Centre crowd out of the game early, and that has been the case far too often. The Jets did spend a lot more time in the offensive zone in the second and third periods but did not generate enough quality chances to beat Price. Michael Frolik at the end of the second and Andrew Ladd early in the third had great chances but failed to score. Daniel Briere into an empty net with 1:18 left ended it. Jets are now 1-2 on this six-game homestand with St. Louis here Friday, Nashville Sunday and Washington Tuesday. (All games on TSN Jets, TSN 1290). On the season the Jets are now 3-4 while Montreal goes to 4-2. The Canadiens finish their four-game road trip at 3-1. Final shots were 36-25 but Coach Claude Noel felt "the shots are a misjudgement of the way we played. They blocked a lot of shots (26) and we helped them. We missed the net (17 missed shots), not enough traffic." On the slow start, "we had a couple of opportunities on thee first shift to get their pressure stopped and we didnt.dddddddddddd We swatted, batted and reached." Captain Andrew Ladd had this to say post game, "Its unfortunate that it takes two goals to get a little desperation in our game. You got to find a way to get going off the hop. I mean theres enough energy in this building to do that and to start the game with the right intentions." There were not a lot of "A" games as far as the Jets were concerned, with Mark Scheifele the exception. "He was pretty good, created some chances," was the comment from Coach Noel. Scheifele played a season-high 18:09, had four shots on goal, was involved physically and won 50 per cent of his draws. It may have been his best game of the season. Evander Kane took three minor penalties in the game, one for holding and two for hooking. "When you are reaching for people, you are going to get called," commented Noel when asked about the calls. Dustin Byfuglien played a season-high 28:03, including just under 10 minutes in the third when the Jets tried to get themselves back in the game. The Jets have now scored seven goals in the last five games, one the empty netter vs. New Jersey as offence continues to be an issue. And not just goals, but after most games players talk about not creating enough good scoring chances. The next two opponents, St. Louis and Nashville, are both very good defensively. The schedule favours the Jets as St. Louis plays in Chicago Thursday, while Nashville plays in Montreal Saturday.
