HOUSTON -- Forward Ronnie Brewer says he has taken a physical to sign with the Houston Rockets. The 28-year-old free agent forward tells KRIV-TV of Houston that he has agreed to a two-year contract with the Rockets. The 6-foot-7, 225-pounder out of Arkansas would be entering his eighth year in the NBA. Last season, he split the season between the New York Knicks and Oklahoma City Thunder, averaging three points and 2.3 rebounds. For his career, he has averaged 8.2 points and three rebounds. New signing Yohan Cabaye came on as a second-half substitute and headed Ezequiel Lavezzis cross against the post in the 87th. Moments later, Lucas set up another goal from the right when fellow countryman Alex turned in his corner with a strikers finish. http://www.footballhotspurstore.com/Wome...Hotspur-Jersey/. Sundays game against the Colorado Rapids at B.C. Place Stadium has important implications in determining Major League Soccers playoff picture and will also mark the final game in the career of veteran South Korean defender Young-Pyo Lee. Victor Wanyama Jersey .J. - Several people have collapsed in an overcrowded New Jersey train station while waiting in long lines to get to the Super Bowl. Danny Rose Jersey .J. -- The New York Jets have promoted Tony Sparano Jr.BOSTON -- Two days into his second call-up of the season, Brock Holt was the centre of attention in Bostons clubhouse. Holt hit a tiebreaking triple in the seventh inning and scored on Jonathan Herreras suicide squeeze, lifting the Red Sox over the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 on Saturday. After the game, Holt did interviews in front of a large-screen TV in the middle of the locker room, a spot usually reserved for the games star or starting pitcher. "Its fun," Holt said. On Friday, Holt went 2 for 4 and drove in a run during the series-opening loss to Baltimore. "You want to go out and play well anytime youre out there," he said. "Ive got these first two under my belt and had some success, hopefully I can continue to keep going out there." David Ortiz had a solo homer and two hits for the World Series champion Red Sox, who have won three of four. But it was Holts hit that sparked the victory. "He had been swinging the bat very well in Pawtucket. He was able to get on a little bit of roll," Boston manager John Farrell said. "What weve seen -- I know its only two games -- is a little bit more authority, particularly on the pull side (of the plate)." Holt came up for a day from Triple-A earlier this month, but didnt get into a game when regular third baseman Will Middlebrooks was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right calf. Nelson Cruz had a pair of run-scoring singles for the Orioles, who had a three-game winning streak halted. Junichi Tazawa (1-0) pitched 1 1-3 hitless innings of relief. Koji Uehara struck out three after a leadoff walk for his fourth save. The benches emptied briefly in the seventh after Bud Norris (0-2) threw high and tight to David Ross, who was trying to sacrifice. Ross yelled something, but Orioles catcher Matt Wieters stepped in between and both sides retreated to the dugouts. "Its emotional. Ross is a good player -- a good catcher and a pro," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "But I know Matt. Hes not going to allow somebody to yell at his pitcher like that -- especially when he doesnt have any reason to." Norris didnt know why Ross was so upset, especially when he was giving up an at-bat to move a runner. "I dont really understand where its coming from, and his point of view," Norris said. "Im trying to throw the ball over the plate and take the out because if youre giving it to me in a sac bunt situation, I want the out every time.dddddddddddd" Baltimore benefited from a challenge that overturned a call at first on what would have been Cruzs inning-ending grounder in the sixth. Holt tripled into the right-centre field gap in the seventh after Mike Carp drew a leadoff walk from Norris. Herrara then dropped down a bunt fouling off on his first attempt. Boston starter Felix Doubront retired 13 consecutive batters after giving up a run in the first before Nick Markakis opened the sixth with a single, but was erased when Delmon Young bounced into double play. The Orioles then got runners on first and third when Cruz hit a grounder to deep third. Holt made a throw from near the foul line. Cruz was called out by first base umpire Ted Barrett. Showalter challenged his first call of the season and it was overturned after a 49-second wait. Ortizs homer hooked around the Pesky Pole and gave the Red Sox a 2-1 lead in the fourth. Doubront pitched 6 2-3 innings, allowing two runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking two. Cruzs RBI single made it 1-0 in the first. Boston tied it in the bottom half when third baseman Jonathan Schoop misplayed a probable inning-ending, double-play grounder. The Orioles, who set a major league record for fewest errors last season (54) and errorless games (119), have committed just four this season -- all of them by a third baseman filling in for Gold Glove winner Manny Machado, who is recovering from off-season left knee surgery. NOTES: Red Sox rookie SS Xander Bogaerts got the day off. "Hes played in every game and after some long games and travel, hes being rested -- and it gives us a chance to get another left-handed bat in there," Farrell said. Switch-hitting Herrera started at short. ... Boston OF Shane Victorino, on the 15-day since March 30 with a strained right hamstring, went 0 for 3 in his first rehab game at Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday. The plan is for him play Monday and Tuesday before being reevaluated. ... Showalter said LHP Zach Britton was sick Friday night and not with the team, but he was back Saturday. ... Machado played his first extended spring training game in Sarasota, Fla. Showalter said he "played five innings and had four at-bats with no problems." ... Middlebrooks worked out on the field before the game. A rainy day saw the former champion Djokovic handle 14th-seeded Frenchman Jo- Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) under the roof on the famed Centre Court. The brisk match came to a close in 1 hour, 52 minutes when the return-of-serve artist Djokovic smacked a cross-court, two-handed backhand winner that just caught the line to seal the deal. Djokovic popped 14 aces and was not broken in the bout, while Tsonga struck 19 aces, but was broken twice by the Serbian stalwart. The 27-year-old Djokovic has now won his last 18 sets against Tsonga, who also lost to the Serbian star in the 2008 Australian Open final. The recent French Open runner-up Djokovic titled here in 2011 and was last years Wimbledon runner-up to Murray. The Serb has reached at least the quarterfinals here six years running. His quarterfinal opponent will be Croat Marin Cilic. The third-seeded Murray reached a seventh straight Wimbledon quarterfinal by getting past 20th-seeded 6-foot-8 South African Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in 2 hours, 33 minutes, also under the roof on Centre Court, as wet weather forced the issue on Day 7 of the fortnight. The roof was open when the match started and closed during the second set. "When it was outdoors, I played very well and was in a good position. When we came back indoors, he started to strike the ball a bit better, he started serving better," Murray said. "Its a good win because he was playing well at the end and making it very tough for me. Its good to get through in straight sets." The match was watched by the likes of Virgin tycoon Richard Branson, pop singer Cliff Richard and two-time 1970s Wimbledon finalist Ilie Nastase in a striking Romanian army uniform. Murray has now won his last 17 matches at the AEC, where be captured an Olympic gold medal in 2012 and gave Britain its first male Wimbledon singles champion in 77 years a year ago. The 27-year-old Scot, who has yet to drop a set thus far, hasnt titled anywhere since capturing the Wimbledon title last July. His quarterfinal opponent on Wednesday will be rapidly rising 11th-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who reached his fiirst-ever Wimbledon quarter by getting past unseeded Argentine Leonardo Mayer 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 in between rain drops on Monday.dddddddddddd The 23-year-old Dimitrov captured his first-ever grass-court title at The Queens Club in London a few weeks ago and is a perfect 8-0 on grass this year. Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka beat Uzbekistans Denis Istomin 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 to reach the fourth round. The fifth-seeded Swiss slugger tallied 12 aces among his 33 winners, broke Istomins serve four times and saved all three break points against him in a match that was postponed because of rain on Saturday. Wawrinka will face in-form Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in the round of 16. The 19th-seeded Lopez took out ninth-seeded John Isner, 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3), 7-5. Isner was the last American standing in the mens draw. Lopez and the 6-foot-10 Isner combined for a whopping 86 aces, including 52 by the towering American. For the first time since 1911, there are no Americans, male of female, playing in the fourth round at Wimbledon. The left-handed Lopez has been on fire on grass, going 12-1 on the surface this year, including a title in Eastbourne two weeks ago and a runner-up finish at The Queens Club in London the week before that. The 26th-seeded Cilic became the first man to reach the quarterfinals on Monday by handling Frances Jeremy Chardy, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4, 6-4. Cilic will appear in his fourth career Grand Slam quarterfinal (1-2). Kei Nishikori reached the fourth round by completing a five-set victory over Italian Simone Bolelli. The 10th seed from Japan claimed a 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-4 victory to arrange a meeting with eighth-seeded Canadian Milos Raonic. Nishikori-Bolelli was suspended because of rain on Saturday with the two tied at 3-3 in the deciding set. HALIFAX -- Milos Raonic will face Colombias Alejandro Gonzalez in Davis Cup play Friday as the hard-serving Canadian returns to the court following a fourth-round exit from the U.S. Open. Raonic, from Thornhill, Ont., will play in the second singles match of the day Friday after Vancouvers Vasek Pospisil opens the best-of-five tie against Santiago Giraldo. The winner of the tie, which will be played on indoor hard court at the Halifax Metro Centre, will advance to the elite World Group next season. Canada is looking to reclaim its World Group spot after a first-round loss to Japan earlier this year. After Fridays singles matches, Pospisil and Torontos Daniel Nestor will play Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in doubles. On Sunday, Raonic will take on Giraldo while Pospisil will play Gonzalez, a last-minute substitute for the injured Alejandro Falla. Frank Dancevic of Niagara Falls, Ont., is Canadas spare. Raonic, ranked seventh in the world, hasnt played since losing a marathon fourth-round U.S. Open match to tournament runner-up Kei Nishikori of Japan. The Canadian said earlier this week that his body had recovered from the gruelling loss. "Now that the draw is done, we are ready for the weekend and feel confident about our team," Canadian captain Martin Larendeau said. "Though we know Colombia will be fighting hard to make history for their country, we feel we belong in the World Group and will do whatever it takes to stay there." At No. 8 in the world, Canada is seen as the favourite, though the 26th-ranked Colombians did win the last meeting between the two teams in 2010 and are looking for their first-ever World Group berth. Canada made Davis Cup history last year by making the semifinals in 16-team World Group. A loss to Colombia would relegate the Canadians to Americas Zone Group I for the first time since 2011. "I had a tough first opponent who can play extremely good tennis," Sharapova said.PORTLAND, Ore. -- Diego Valeri scored in the final minute of stoppage time to pull the Portland Timbers into a 1-1 draw with the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday. The equalizer came after Robbie Keanes header two minutes into stoppage time appeared to give the Galaxy the win. Los Angeles peppered Portland goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts with shots all game, but couldnt break through until Keanes fifth goal of the season. Valeris goal was his second of the year. "We fell asleep at the end of the game," Galaxy coach Bruce Arena said. "A bunch of guys can do better on the play. But we played very well today, should have walked away with three points." Galaxy midfielder Landon Donovan remained at 134 career MLS goals, tied with Jeff Cunningham for the league record. Neither team was satisfied with the draw. Portland, which finished with the best regular season record in the Western Conference last season, has only one victory so far this year, last weekends late 3-2 win over D.C. United. "Bottom line is, weve not been good enough," Timbers coach Caleb Porter said. Arena and Keane were upset that Portlands Donovan Nagbe wasnt called for a foul on Juninho on a breakaway before Valeris game-tying goal. "Some poor decisions we have to accept, and take responsibility ourselves as well, because the last minute of the game you shouldnt be conceding a goal," Keane said. The Galaxy were coming off a 1-0 loss to the Colorado Rapids last weekend, snapping a four-match unbeaten streak. Los Angeles was without centre back Omar Gonzalez, who hurt his left knee in the first half of the loss at Colorado. Hes being held out as a precaution so that he can take part in the U.S. national teams training for the World Cup. GGonzalez and Donovan are expected to report Wednesday to the U.ddddddddddddS. teams training camp at Stanford. Portland was hurt early when defender Michael Harrington left the match with an apparent right ankle injury. The ankle had bothered him early this week. Later in the game Portland midfielder Diego Chara came off after what appeared to be a left hand injury, replaced by Ben Zemanski. "For me its just disappointing," Timbers defender Jack Jewsbury said. "Were better than we showed today." The Timbers looked to have a chance in the 34th minute but Valeri couldnt get a shot off as he charged Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo. Most eyes were on Donovan, who looked to have a shot in the box in the 39th minute before Chara stole the ball. Donovan is scoreless in all seven league games hes played this season. Hes had four goals and three assists in seven career matches against the Timbers dating back to 2011 when Portland joined MLS. "Landon was the best player on the field today," Arena said. "Played very well. Good to see." Futty Dansos header for Portland in the 59th minute hit the far post as the sellout crowd at Providence Park gasped. Ricketts tipped a hard shot from Galaxy forward Keane in the 82nd minute, but couldnt stop Keanes second shot in stoppage time. There were five total minutes of extra time at the end of the match. "We certainly deserved to win today, theres no question about that," Keane said. The Galaxy finished with 21 shots to Portlands 10. "We can fault the referee as much as we want, but we were still the team in control at the end of the game where we could have denied a goal-scoring opportunity and didnt get that done," Arena said. CALGARY - With their momentum suddenly halted, the Calgary Stampeders are collecting themselves for what will be a tough fight for the West Division over the final third of the regular season. At 10-2, Calgary still tops the CFL and West Division standings. But a 31-15 loss Sunday to the Alouettes in Montreal was a dash of cold water in the face of leagues top team.A week earlier, Calgary had to overcome a 19-point deficit at halftime to beat the Toronto Argonauts. The Stampeders have six games remaining against three division opponents, starting Saturday at home against the B.C. Lions (7-5). The Lions downed the host Stamps 25-24 on Aug. 1 for Calgarys only other loss this season. The Stampeders twice face the Saskatchewan Roughriders (9-3) and Winnipeg Blue Bombers (6-6) before the season finale against the Lions.Calgary is two points up on the Roughriders, four on the Edmonton Eskimos and six on the Lions. The Stampeders swept the season series against the Eskimos. This home stretch will determine who gets what in terms of a playoff berth, home playoff games and the bye to the West Division final. This is the best part of the season, running back Jon Cornish said. Over the last few years, Ive sort of realized that nothing really matters except for these last six games. With that in mind, I think this team is really going to prepare for that. Were going to be ready to take on all these opponents because were playing great teams.Cornish, the CFLs most outstanding player in 2013 and leading rusher the last two seasons, will play Saturday after sitting out the game in Montreal.Cornish didnt travel with the team in order to heal undisclosed aches and pains. The 29-year-old from New Westminster, B.C., missed six games in July and August with concussion symptoms.I dont think Ill have to miss any more games, Cornish said. Thats why I took this time, so I would be ready. These teams are going to be ready to play us, so I want to be ready for them.Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell isnt ready to return, which means Drew Tate gets his second straight start of the season. Mitchell sprained his ankle and stretched a ligament in his left leg late in the game versus the Argos.Tate took first-team reps Tuesday, while Mitchell practised lightly wearing a brace on his left leg.Hes progressing at a good tempo, Stampeder coach John Hufnagel said of Mitchell. Probably will not make this game, maybe as a No. 3 guy. Hopefully hell be full-go for the next game.Calgary has built a reputation for winning despite injuries. They were 14-4 last season despite using three different starting quarterbacks. But the Stampeders may have neared the limit of their depth Sunday in Montreal. Not only were the starting quarterback and star running back absent, but leading receiver Marquay McDaniel was on the six-game injured list with a broken bone in his hand from the Toronto game. The Stampeders managed two touchdowns on the ground and less than 300 yards on offence, but it was on the other side of the ball where Calgary was uncharacteristically porous.A team allowing an average of 18 points per game gave up 31. Montreals offence had the ball for almost 38 minutes, while Calgarys time of possession was just over 23.Team sack leader Charleston Hughes (foot), defensive tackle Demonte Bolden (leg) and Hughess backup Ben DAguilar (knee) were also injured in the Toronto game. That trio didnt play in Montreal and they wont Saturday against the Lions. Bolden is on the six-game injured list. Its further decimated a defensive line that was already without starters Micah Johnson (knee) and Corey Mace (foot).Thats no excuse for the way we played, defensive end Shawn Lemon said. It doesnt matter who is out. If youre on this team we believe we can step up. I take it upon myself as well. I didnt play up to my expectations and I wasnt an impact in the last game.Just got to gain momentum back. We took a step back last week so just come out and get back to what we were doing the first 11 weeks of the season. The Stampeders added defensive lineman Caesar Rayford to the practice roster Tuesday. He played seven games and recorded five tackles for the NFLs Dallas Cowboys last season. The six-foot-seven University of Washington product also spent time on the Lions practice roster in 2008. P.J. CLEVELAND -- The Browns arent letting Alex Mack walk away freely. The team locked the free agent Pro Bowl centre into a one-year, $10.039 million contract on Monday by designating him as their transition player. By using the transition tag instead of the franchise tag, Cleveland will have five days to match any offer to Mack made by other teams when free agency opens on March 11. If the Browns had used their franchise tag, Mack would have made $11.654 million next season. In the meantime, the Browns are expected to try and sign Mack to a long-term contract. The 6-foot-4, 311-pounder has been one of Clevelands best and most dependable players since the Browns drafted him in the first round in 2009. He has not missed one offensive play in five years, a run of 4,998 consecutive snaps. Mack may want to play elsewhere. He could draw serious interest as a free agent and he may be dismayed with the teams direction following another coaching change and front-office purge this winter. The Browns have gone just 23-57 since Mack arrived. The decision to make Mack their transition player also means Pro Bowl safety T.J. Ward is now a free agent. Ward had a solid 2013 season. He started all 16 games and made a career-high 129 tackles with two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. With Ward seemingly no longer in their plans, the Browns could pursue Buffalo free safety Jairus Byrd, who was not tagged by the Bills. A three-time Pro Bowler, Byrd could be reunited in Cleveland with new Browns coach Mike Pettine, who spent last season as Buffalos defensive co-ordinator. Byrd turned down a multiyear offer from the Bills. He played under a one-year, $6.9 million franchise tag last year. The Browns have over $55 million in salary-cap room. Whats the latest on Steven Stamkos three weeks after have surgery on his broken leg? Darren Dreger: Hes ahead of schedule. Hes targeting February 6 against the Tornoto Maple Leafs as his expected date of return. Hes working out on a daily basis, riding a bike, and core training. Hes going to work out exclusively with Gary Roberts over the Christmas break and then hell kick it in to high gear and do two-a-day training in January. Pierre LeBrun: And Team Canada is going to use that extra week they got from the IIHF and will announce their roster on January 7. Meanwhile, the Team Canada brain trust is going to meet before the Board of Governors meeting in California, take in a Kings game and fine tune their player list this weekend. What is on the front burner of trade talk? Bob McKenzie: Florida Panthers defenceman Dmitri Kulikov has been available for most of this year but the Panthers are kicking it up, very aggressively shopping him, and trying to get an auction going for a 23-year-old defenceman who was picked 14th overall in the 2008 draft. Kulikov though has two knocks against him. One, he hasnt been developing and playing particularly well for Florida and two, hes a restricted free agent at the end of the year and there are fears that because he has the KHL option as a Russian, he might go back there instead of playing in the NHL. Dreger: The New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, and Edmonton Oilers are believed to be among the most active teams in trade discussions. The Islanders are looking for depth in goal and a defenceman. The Canucks had some interest in Martin Erat out of Washington and while thats not a fit they still want a top six forward. And its Groundhog Day in Edmonton where Craig MacTavish continues to search for a defenceman. McKenzie: Carolina is a hot spot right now. General manager Jim Rutherford is one of the most patient GMs in the NHL but that patience is definitely wearing thin. Theres no coaching change planned right now; head coach Kirk Mullers not in imminent danger. But another week or two of underachhieving the way they have been and all bets are off.dddddddddddd Off the ice, on the ice, Rutherford is getting extremely frustrated the way his team is looking. And anything is possible if this team keeps taking a nose dive. LeBrun: Another team to keep an eye on is the Colorado Avalanche. Theyve been making calls offering up winger Jamie McGinn. Theyd like to get a defenceman or a veteran checking forward in return. McGinns name is being offered to a couple teams around the league right now. The Board of Governors Meeting next week could have some significance for the San Jose Sharks. LeBrun: Its significant for a lot of teams but really for San Jose. They are trying to re-sign their big three: Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, and Dan Boyle. All are UFAs at the end of the year; there have been ongoing discussions with all three with numbers being exchanged with Boyles camp and Thorntons camp. Not so much with Marleau because he hasnt hired an agent yet after the passing of Don Baizley. But once they get that cap number next week it gives Doug Wilson a chance to go back to all three camps and have a number for all three. McKenzie: David Legwand of the Nashville Predators is not Thornton, but he is an effective member of the Predators and the first person ever taken by them in the entry draft many years ago. Hes an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year and is looking for a new deal but there have been no negotiations thus far. Hes a guy that wants to get locked up in Nashville but nothings happened thus far. Has there been a shuffle in senior management in Philadelphia? Dreger: Paul Holmgren will now report directly to Ed Snider and that may have its complications for anybody that knows how volatile Snider can be. Peter Luukko stepped down as President and COO of Comcast so that complicates things because he did a lot of work on the hockey side including buffering between Snider and Holmgren. Whats going in with the goalie rankings for the US Olympic hockey team? LeBrun: The current ranking right now has Jonathan Quick and Ryan Miller 1-2 one way or the other which has yet to be determined. The battle for the third spot is between Jimmy Howard and Cory Schneider. No Ben Bishop in that top four; in fact the guy they have listed fifth is Tim Thomas. But at this point it looks like Howard or Schneider for that third spot behind Quick and Miller. With the NHL regular season right around the corner, TSN.ca profiles each team leading up to puck drop. Next up is the Montreal Canadiens - Canadas top franchise last season with a lot of pressure to improve on last springs playoff success. Catch up on their off-season moves and the issues they face this season, as well as their analytical breakdown by TSNs Scott Cullen. Division: Atlantic GM: Marc Bergevin Head Coach: Michel Therrien 2013-14: 46-28-8 (3rd in Atlantic) Playoffs: Lost in Eastern Conference Final Goals For: 209 (21st) Goals Against: 201 (8th) PP: 17.2% (19th) PK: 85.1% (4th) That Was Then: After a 2012-13 season that saw the Canadiens capture the division title and qualify for the post-season, most of the Montreal faithful were happy with their turnaround from a last place finish in the Eastern Conference basement a year earlier. Not Marc Bergevin. "There were a many positives from last year," he told his players flatly prior to last seasons training camp. "We made the playoffs but lost in the first-round (to Ottawa). We cant be satisfied with that." The Canadiens struggled in the first quarter of the season, with a 10-9-2 record and slow starts from two of their top forwards. David Desharnais, with just one assist in his first 17 games, was chastised on social media by Montreal mayor Denis Coderre - who called for his demotion to Hamilton of the American Hockey League. Max Pacioretty, who was also struggling on the score sheet, was suddenly the subject of trade speculation. All of that came to a head on Nov. 19, when Pacioretty scored a natural hat trick and Desharnais notched two assists in the Habs 6-2 win over the Minnesota Wild. That victory put the Canadiens top scoring duo back on track, as well as kickstart a 9-0-1 run through Dec. 7. The rest of December and January werent particularly kind, headlined by a listless 5-0 home loss to Washington on Jan. 25 that saw the club booed mercilessly at the Bell Centre. Cue Bergevin, who saw it all first-hand and had all of his players stay in the dressing room to address the media after the game. That subtle (or not-so-subtle depending what he said to his players) reminder of accountability worked as the Habs recovered quickly and went 5-1-1 into the Olympic break. Going into the NHLs 3pm et trade deadline on Mar. 3, things looked very quiet from the front office. The team had already acquired depth players in forward Dale Weise and defenceman Mike Weaver and appeared to be standing pat. That is, until 2:59pm et when news broke that the Canadiens - who werent even rumoured to be in the running - acquired arguably the biggest name of the day in sniper Thomas Vanek. The Austrian winger, who settled in on a line with Desharnais and Pacioretty, gave the Canadiens that added offensive punch they needed to make the post-season. Which brings us to Mar. 15 and a nationally televised Saturday night game at home against Ottawa. Down 4-1 late in the third period, the Canadiens - in an NHL first - stunned the Senators with three unanswered goals in the final three-and-a-half minutes of play en route to an incredible 5-4 overtime win. As Therrien and Bergevin later admitted, that victory turned their season around and gave them the momentum to clinch a post-season berth with an 11-3-1 finish in their final 15 games. What happened in the playoffs was beyond just about everyones expectations, as the Canadiens knocked off the Tampa Bay Lightning and hated Boston Bruins before losing out in six games to the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Final. Just two wins shy of their first Stanley Cup Final since 1993, it will be difficult for Bergevin and Therrien to temper expectations after the Habs best post-season showing of this generation. Bergevin also parted ways with captain Brian Gionta and shot-blocking blueliner Josh Gorges, as both headed to the Buffalo Sabres through free agency and a trade. On July 1, the Canadiens added faceoff specialist Manny Malhotra, who should take some of the defensive zone responsibilities off two-way centres Tomas Plekanec and Lars Eller. Free agent defenceman Tom Gilbert was also brought in, providing power play help and a valuable right-handed shot behind Andrei Markov and P.K. Subban. Markov appears to be a career Canadien after signing a new three-year contract prior to July 1, while Subban - much to the delight of Canadiens fans - signed an eie right winger and a leader in the dressing room. Parenteau believes he can take the role on the second line, while free agent signing Jiri Sekac will also get a look. Where the leadership element is concerned, Giontas (and Gorges) departure means the torch will be passed to a core headlined by younger players like Pacioretty, Subban and Brendan Gallagher. Fantasy - Cullens Player to Watch Alex Galchenyuk The third overall pick in 2012 has shown flashes of talent in two pro campaigns, but struggled during his sophomore season, particularly after missing time with a broken hand, scoring three goals and eight points in 21 games after returning from the injury. Nevertheless, the 20-year-old has the size and skill to be a difference maker for the Habs, provided he is utilized in a sufficiently prominent offensive role. Through his first two years, there have been some ups and down when it comes to ice time, as Galchenyuk has averaged 13:30 per game over his first 113 NHL games, but if he stays healthy, and plays a top-six role this season, Galchenyuk could be poised for a breakthrough season. Pittsburgh, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Christian Ehrhoff scored with 1:50 remaining to snap a tie and lift the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Saturday. Evgeni Malkin and Brandon Sutter also scored for the Penguins, who bounced back from a 3-0 shutout at the hands of Vancouver on Thursday and won for the third time in their last four games. Marc-Andre Fleury made 27 saves in the victory. Milan Michalek and Mika Zibanejad scored second-period goals for Ottawa, which has lost five in a row and seven of its last eight. Craig Anderson stopped 30 shots in defeat, but had little chance on Ehrhoffs winner. The Penguins worked for the puck deep and Sidney Crosby emerged with it along the left boards. He backhanded a cross-ice pass to an unchecked Ehrhoff, who moved into the right circle alone and blasted a shot from the dot into the upper right corner of the net for his second goal of the season. Final Score: St. Louis 6, NY Islanders 4 Uniondale, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Martin Brodeur picked up his 689th career win and his first as a member of a team other than the New Jersey Devils. Subbing for an ineffective Jake Allen, Brodeur came up with 14 saves on 15 shots through the games final two periods as the St. Louis Blues rallied from three goals down to claim a 6-4 victory over the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. T.J. Oshie began a three-goal final stanza with a power-play marker, while Paul Stastny and Vladimir Tarasenko added late scores for the Blues, who had lost back-to-back divisional road games. Allen gave up three goals on 12 shots in the first period. Frans Nielsen, Ryan Strome, Michael Grabner and John Tavares supplied offense for the Islanders, who had won their previous three contests. Jaroslav Halak was on the hook for all six goals on 40 shots in defeat. Final Score: Philadelphia 2, Los Angeles 1 Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Steve Mason stopped 37-of-38 shots to help the Philadelphia Flyers steal two points from the Los Angeles Kings in a 2-1 victory Saturday at Staples Center. Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds tallied for the Flyers, who finished the California portion of their five- game, cross-continent road trip at 1-1-1. Philadelphia, which completes its travels on Tuesday in Columbus, also snapped a season-high six-game losing skid. Justin Williams registered the lone goal and Jonathan Quick made only 14 saves for the Kings, who had blanked Boston, Arizona and Minnesota in their last three victories. Final Score: Toronto 5, Vancouver 2 Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Jake Gardiner and Richard Panik scored 45 seconds apart late in the first period and Jonathan Bernier made 44 saves, as Toronto raced out to a four-goal lead then held on to beat Vancouver, 5-2, from Air Canada Centre. Peter Holland and Joffrey Lupul tallied early in the second to complete the burst and David Clarkson added a late marker for the Maple Leafs, who have won five of their last seven. Daniel Sedin and Christopher Tanev provided offense for the Canucks, who had recorded road wins against Pittsburgh and Washington but fell to 3-2 on their seven-game road trip. Ryan Miller was pulled after giving up four goals on 14 shots in almost 26 minutes. Eddie Lack finished up by halting all 13 Toronto chances for the remainder of the contest. Final Score: Detroit 3, NY Rangers 2 Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Darren Helm recorded the tie-breaking goal 7:40 into the third period as the surging Detroit Red Wings rallied for a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers at Joe Louis Arena. The Red Wings trailed 2-0 deep into the second period before getting goals from Riley Sheahan and Luke Glendening just over a minute apart. Jimmy Howard stoned the Rangers over the final two frames, finishing with 26 saves in Detroits sixth win in seven games. Cam Talbot stopped 31-of-34 shots for New York, which received early tallies from Kevin Klein and Rick Nash in its second straight loss. Boone Jenner and David Savard scored first-period goals for the Blue Jackets, who have won three straight games on the heels of a six-game slide. Jack Skille padded the lead in the third, and Bobrovsky stopped 33-of-34 shots he faced to help secure the win. Ondrej Palat spoiled Bobrovskys shutout with 1:13 left in the game, but it wasnt enough for Tampa Bay, which had won five of six. Ben Bishop yielded all three goals on 20 shots. Final Score: Florida 3, Buffalo 2 Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Nick Bjugstad scored the eventual game- winner in the closing seconds of the second period as the Florida Panthers downed the Buffalo Sabres, 3-2, on Saturday. Brad Boyes and Tomas Kopecky also scored, and Aaron Ekblad assisted on all three of Floridas goals in the clubs fifth straight win over Buffalo. Roberto Luongo, who shut the Sabres out on Oct. 17, stopped 26-of-28 shots, while Michal Neuvirths 34-save effort went for naught. Drew Stafford and Brian Gionta accounted for Buffalos offense. Irving made his first shot of the night on a layup a little over three minutes into the game.ARLINGTON, Texas -- Two big swings from Adrian Beltre helped the Texas Rangers snap out of their offensive funk. The All-Star slugger went deep twice and the Rangers used a four-run seventh inning to beat the Seattle Mariners 5-4 on Thursday night. Texas hadnt scored more than four runs in the last six games and was outscored 13-4 in losing the first two of the series against the Mariners. Beltre hit a solo shot in the second and another in the seventh for his 24th career multihomer game. He finished with three hits and two RBIs. "I think the last couple of days we havent been able to get the big hit," he said. "Obviously, thats what youre looking for when you hit in the middle of the lineup. Today was a better day, even though it was late." With Texas trailing 3-1, Beltre led off the seventh with a drive to centre against Hisashi Iwakuma (7-4). A.J. Pierzynski then singled and Lance Berkman walked before Mitch Moreland bounced a tying single up the middle against Charlie Furbush. Elvis Andrus came up with a go-ahead sacrifice fly and Ian Kinsler capped the big inning with an RBI single. Texas manager Ron Washington said before the game that he hoped his team would improve with runners in scoring position. He eventually got his wish. "Thats exciting when you can run the bases," Washington said. Josh Lindblom (1-2) recorded the final two outs of the seventh to pick up his first win since Aug. 31. Raul Ibanez homered for the Mariners, belting a tiebreaking two-run shot in the seventh. It was his 12th homer in his last 28 games, lifting the total for the 41-year-old slugger to 21 for the year. Iwakuma, who came in leading the AL in ERA, allowed four runs and five hits in six innings. The Japanese right-hander is 0-3 with a 5.54 ERA in his last four starts. Ibanez wennt 4 for 5 with three RBIs and Kyle Seager added three hits for the Mariners, who were trying for their first series sweep at Texas since 2002.dddddddddddd The Mariners had 14 hits, but went 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position and left 13 on base. "Weve got to do better with guys on base," said Ibanez, who had his first four-hit game since June 8, 2010. "This is a place where you feel no lead is safe. TSN Hockey Insiders Bob McKenzie and Darren Dreger have the latest ahead of the NHL Draft on potential Jason Spezza trades, Dave Bolland heading to free agency, Joe Thornton and Ryan Kesler, and more. Thirteen years ago the Ottawa Senators drafted Jason Spezza. Now are they going to trade Spezza on Draft Day or perhaps even before? Bob McKenzie: They certainly hope so, and the talk has picked up the past 24-48 hours to the point now where there are four teams talking to the Senators about Spezza. Three of those teams are in the Western Conference and we know Anaheim and St. Louis are among that group. One mystery team in the Eastern Conference has entered the fray which makes things a little interesting. Keep in mind Spezza has a list of 10 teams that he cannot be traded to and there are four Eastern Conference teams that are on that list including Florida, Carolina, Columbus, and the New York Islanders. In a perfect world the Senators would like to have this done before or at the Draft; they would like to get a first-round pick in Fridays draft as part of the compensation for Spezza. David Bolland is set to become a free agent July 1 but Toronto has been looking at getting a deal done. Now they know exactly what he wants, is it too steep? Darren Dreger: He wants maximum value and as far as the Maple Leafs are concerned, yes its too steep. Its believed that hes asking for the maximum eight years to stay with the Leafs and at $4.9 million per year. Thats a tough hit. At 28-years-old, Bollands earned his right to unrestricted free agency. I believe the Leafs would be more comfortable in that 5-6 year range so its very likely Bolland is going to unrestricted free agency. Hes not healthy yet but hes well on his way and he hopes and believes hell be at 100% as early as training camp. Are the Edmonton Oilers in pursuit of a centre? Dreger: Yes, theyre looking for a centre and a defenceman and theyre very active. Theyre throwing out some considerable assets as well; we know that the Oilers third overall pick is very much in play. And Sam Gagners name seems to surface annually at the draft, hes also trade bait for Edmonton. And the Oilers are still in the game for the first overall pick with Florida. Will Joe Thornton go anywhere? McKenzie: Not right now. Its a dicey situation, I think in a perfect world the San Jose Sharks would like to try and trade Thornton and begin a rebuilding process using the return as a centerpiece for it. But as of right now, Thornton has no intention of waiving his no-move clause to go anywhere. Theres no list whatsoever, and if there was a list I suspect it would include teams the Sharks probably wouldnt want to trade him to like the Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Kings, or Chicago Blackhawks. In the meantime Thornton, as the captain of the team, is meeting with the core group of players and trying to pick up the pieces and carry on but well see what happens. So no list for Thornton but there definitely is a list for Ryan Kesler… McKenzie: There is a list of six teams for Kesler and the two teams that seem to be the most interested in him right now are the Blackhawks and Ducks; thats not news. Theres nothing imminent on the Kesler front because I get the sense that Anaheim and Chicago believe theyre the only two teams in the running, therefore the offers arent good enough for what Vancouver wants to do. Vancouver isnt going to do this deal if they dont get the right amount, or at least not at the draft. And the other thing for the Canucks, like a lot of teams, theyre trying to move up and get the first overall pick. Right now Panthers GM Dale Tallon has three legitimate offers, which is up from one. But dont confuse legitimate offers with a deal that he would absolutely make right now. Right now its more likely hell be using the first overall pick to make a selection than trading it. Is Dan Boyle about to get a lot of legitimate offers? Dreger: It was a brisk day in the Boyle camp, at least eight teams have made contact with Boyles representatives, and many of those teams will meet with his representatives on Thursday and that of course includes the Maple Leafs. TORONTO - Masai Ujiri wasted little time in making his first move of the offseason. Just one day after their season came to an abrupt end, the Raptors have reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension with head coach Dwane Casey, sources confirm to TSN.ca Monday evening. In his third year with the team, Casey, 57, helped lead the Raptors to a franchise-record 48-win season en route to a division title and opening-round elimination to the Brooklyn Nets in a seven-game playoff series. Addressing the media after cleaning out their lockers Monday afternoon, Caseys players seemed to be aware of the teams plans to bring him back. "I think hell be back," said Kyle Lowry, an unrestricted free agent. "Simple as that. Matter of fact, Im sure hell be back." Casey was brought in by former Raptors general manager Bryan Colangelo ahead of the 2010-11 season after he had won a championship as an assistant in Dallas the year prior. Right out of the gate, he took a team that had ranked near the bottom of the league in every defensive category, a long-time NBA doormat, and immediately changed the culture. After his third-year option was picked up, Casey had mixed results at the helm of the Raptors in his second season, getting off to a slow start and clashing with Lowry. Instead of discarding Casey for his own coach, Ujiri - the incoming GM - opted to give him a one-year trial, to which he did not disappoint. Both he and Lowry developed a mutual respect, as the point guard turned in a career year, DeMar DeRozan blossomed into an all-star and the team went on to exceed every rationale pre-season expectation. Casey became the fourth coach in franchise history to lead the Raptors to the postseason and his fingerprints can be found on the development of Torontos many young players. "Hes been a great coach," sophomore Terrence Ross said Monday. "Hes helped me with a lot. Hes taught me a lot, especially when it comes to defence. I give him a lot of credit for how I play on the court." "One thing I respect about coach Casey, man, hes been consistent," DeRozan added. "Hes been the same Dwane Casey since hes been here, preached the same thing, told us to stick with the same principles and theyll work. We did it, and everything he said came together like he said it would." "You could go in his office, knock on his door, talk to him whenever, you could text him," he continued. "Hes a players coach. Hes a great dude. Sometimes you dont even look at him like a coach because you could go up to him and talk to Dwane about any situation. I think thats what helped us a lot." Casey ranks third in team history with 105 wins, behind Sam Mitchell and Lenny Wilkens and recently became the first coach to lead the Raptors to multiple seasons holding opponents under 100 points and below 45 per cent from the field. The deal was first reported by the Toronto Star Monday evening. Casey and Ujiri will meet with the media on Tuesday. Watch it live on TSN, TSN.ca and TSN GO at 10:15am et/7:15am pt. Tucson, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - Rondae Hollis-Jefferson brought McKale Center to life with a highlight reel jam early in the second half to jumpstart No. 2 Arizona after a lethargic start, and the Wildcats used a dominant final 20 minutes to run away from UC Irvine, 71-54. Hollis-Jefferson, widely considered the best sixth man in the nation and a first-round pick in next years NBA draft should be declare, injected some life into Arizona at the 14:57 mark of the second half. Trailing by three, Stanley Johnson drove baseline and dished to a cutting Hollis- Jefferson, who rose up and threw down a lefty slam over 7-foot-6 center Mamadou Ndiaye. The Wildcats outscored Irvine 35-17 from there. Hollis-Jefferson scored a game-high 19 points, T.J. McConnell filled up the stat sheet with 12 points, nine rebounds and six steals and Johnson posted his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Alexei Ramirez and Jose Abreu arent among them. Ramirez hit a grand slam to fuel Chicagos seven-run fourth inning and Jose Abreu hit his major league-leading 13th homer and drove in two runs -- both homers came on 3-0 pitches -- to lead the White Sox to a 9-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night. Ramirezs blast was his sixth career grand slam and broke open a 2-2 tie. "I was looking for a good pitch to connect, something that was over the plate," he said through a translator. "Thats what I did and I was able to hit it." Abreu was the designated hitter because of a nagging left ankle injury. He went 3 for 4 and leads the AL with 37 RBIs. His blast to straight away centre was estimated at 442-feet. "You dont see balls hit like that very much," said White Sox bench coach Mark Parent, who filled in for manager Robin Ventura in the postgame news conference although Ventura managed. "Well probably do the same thing tomorrow, DH him and try to get him a couple of days off on the road." Tyler Flowers also homered for the White Sox, who pounded out 15 hits. Andre Rienzo (3-0) allowed three runs on four hits in 5 2-3 innings and the bullpen pitched 3 1-3 scoreless innings. Brandon McCarthy (1-6) allowed nine hits and seven runs -- all in the fourth inning. "I have no idea what happened; I really dont know," McCarthy said. "I dont know if they changed their approach or just got super aggressive. I was throwing a lot of strikes, they just started jumping on everything." Arizona went up 2-0 on Gerardo Parras two-run homer in the third inning. The lead appeared secure because McCarthy was cruising, retiring all nine batters he faced in the first three innings on a total of 33 pitches. Things quickly turned in the bottom of the fourth. Alejandro De Aza broke up the no-hitter with a leadoff double and scored on a single by the next batter, Gordon Beckham. Following Connor Gillaspies single, Abreu drove in Beckham with a single to tie the score at 2 and make it four straight hits.dddddddddddd Things were just getting started. Following a strikeout by Adam Dunn for the first out, Dayan Viciedo singled to load the bases and Ramirez broke the game open by sending a drive into the left-field bullpen. The White Sox werent done as the next three batters singled. McCarthy, who threw 31 pitches in the fourth inning, was knocked from the game on the last of those hits, a run-scoring single by De Aza, to make it 7-2. "Even looking back, theyre not terrible pitches, theyre not anything different than what I was doing the first three innings," McCarthy said. "Its just I dont know, I dont know how you get 9 hits out of 10 hitters, when I felt like I was doing the things I needed to do. Im baffled at this point." The Chicago hitters werent baffled by anything in the fourth. "The first time around, he was able to throw his sinker, he was able to throw his curveball efficiently," Ramirez said. "The second time, I just kind of lay off of that stuff and thats how I was able to get a good pitch. I think thats what everybody else did." The Diamondbacks got a run back in the top of the fifth on a run-scoring single by A.J. Pollock. Abreu then homered in the seventh to make it 8-3. Flowers had a leadoff homer in the eighth to close out the scoring. CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Panthers coach Ron Rivera has more to worry about this week than his teams upcoming NFC playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks after an overnight fire at his home left his family displaced on Monday. The Rivera familys 7,000-square-foot, two-story Charlotte home sustained significant damage from an early morning blaze that spewed heavy smoke and fire from the attic two days after Carolinas 27-16 playoff victory over Arizona. No one was injured in the two-alarm blaze, which took about an hour to extinguish. The big thing is were all right, Rivera said. This opportunity to work and continue to work is very reassuring. It could have been worse. Its kind of like (the movie) Its A Wonderful Life, You see things through a different set of eyes now.Rivera and his wife, Stephanie, along with his two brothers and their wives were in the house sleeping at the time of the fire. All made it out safely along with two family pets.Rivera suspects the fire might have started in a gas fireplace, located on the opposite side of the master bedroom wall where he and Stephanie were sleeping. He repeatedly stressed at his news conference the importance of having a home security system or smoke alarms, saying it probably saved his familys life.Rivera said the master bedroom, family room and living room are pretty close to being destroyed and the insurance company estimates it will take six to eight months before theyll be able to return to the home.He said they will stay in a friends private house while waiting for the house to be rebuilt.Charlotte Fire Department Capt. Rob Brisley said at a news conference Monday morning that early indications suggest the fire was accidental and we were able to keep the damage to a minimum, meaning a lot of their household items are safe.Rivera now has to shift gears to focus preparation on the biggest game of his head coaching career Saturday night against the defending Super Bowl champion Seahawks on the other side of the country.Rivera didnt arrive at the stadium until Monday afternoon — several hours later than he planned — after dealing with the aftermath of the fire.Rivera doesnt believe the fire will be a distraction to his preparation this week.He said his coaching staff has already prepared for Seattle and Im the only one that has to catch up.This is the second significant off-the-field issue to hit the Panthers in less than a month.Quarterback Cam Newton was injured in a two-vehicle accident Dec. 9 and was hospitalized overnight with two fractures in his lower back. Newton missed one game, but was able to return the following week.Earlier this off-season, Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy was convicted on two counts of domestic violence and hasnt played since the first week of the season while hes remained on the commissioners exempt list.Pro Bowl tight end Greg Olsen called it a bizarre season.Every year has its own story. Ever year has its own series of events that are hard to predict, Olsen said. But a car accident involving your starting quarterback and your head coachs house catching fire — those are things I dont think anyone anticipates being a part of your story. For whatever reason this has been our year for out of the ordinary events.Said Rivera: It has been different. You cant make this stuff up.Veteran safety Roman Harper said he doesnt believe the fire will be a distraction for Rivera, who is 32-31-1 in the regular season and 1-1 in the post-season since taking over in Carolina in 2011.Coach Rivera will be fine, Harper said. I know he wont let it get in the way of what were trying to accomplish as a team. After reports of the fire emerged, Rivera texted members of his coaching staff and told them his family was fine and had them pass along a message to players that its business as usual.Brisley called the damage to the house significant.Anytime you are faced with a fire and your family is displaced it is significant for the homeowner and it is significant for the family, Brisley said. We are just grateful that there are no injuries.Fire officials reported seeing heavy smoke and fire coming from the house when they arrived. Television video showed blackened windows in the attic of the home. The Panthers did not practice Monday, but players did come into the stadium for some team meetings and a few stopped by to speak with reporters. We have to remain focused on the on-the-field stuff, linebacker Thomas Davis said. We have a great opportunity ahead of us right now. With coach Riveras situation we are thankful no one got hurt. But a house is a materialistic thing that can be replaced. When you lose a life or someone gets hurt its hard to replace that.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFL Klay Thompson Jersey . BEIJING -- Canadas Kevin Koe had to settle for fourth place at the world mens curling championship after falling 7-5 to Switzerland in Sundays bronze-medal match. Koes Calgary rink came into the 10th end down by three, but couldnt muster the comeback, scoring just a single point in the final end against the Swiss team. Switzerland stole single points in the first two ends, and padded their lead with deuces in the sixth and ninth ends en route to the victory. "We definitely didnt want to lose that game," said lead Nolan Thiessen. "But after yesterday, it was tough to get fired up. But no excuses. They played better than us." Canada had two chances on Saturday to reach Sundays gold-medal game, but fell short to Norways Thomas Ulsrud in the 1-2 Page playoff game, and then to Swedens Oskar Eriksson in the semifinal. Ulsrud led from start to finish in defeating Sweden 8-3 to claim the gold medal later Sunday. "I thought we played well in the one-two game and the semi," sad Koe. "We were very close. But in games like that where the other teams are playing well, you have to make the last shot of the end sometimes and we let our chances slip away." Despite failing to medal at the world championships, Canadian coach Rick Lang says theres no reason to push any panic buttons, considering Canada has finished in the top six at every international curling event this season. "Twenty-four hours ago, we were within a shot or two of being in the final here," said Lang. "And then we have a bad 24 hours and that chat starts. But we had a great team here. They didnt play like themselves the last couple days, but they were worthy Brier champions. "We sent a great team here. They just didnt have a good day, and that can happen to anybody. The level of competition here is strong and getting stronger. We just have to answer the bell, thats all." Koe said he was proud of the way the team performed in Beijing. "Thats the way weve always done things," he said. "Some people might not like our style or our game, but we fight. Its not always the prettiest, but we get things done. "Im proud of the guys. We had a great run. World championship, two Brier titles, a Brier final -- obviously this was very disappointing, but its been a great team." Terrence Ross Jersey . Here are some tidbits from camp: SANTOS DEALING WITH UNCERTAIN FUTURE Its an oft-repeated cliché but Sergio Santos really is approaching life one day at a time. Almost traded during the offseason - according to reports he was nearly moved twice - he continues to hear his name in the rumour mill. "Its just been different or kind of out of the norm," said Santos. "I try to keep as level-minded of an outlook as I can. I try not to look too far ahead or try to think about things that I cant control." Santos almost became a Texas Ranger in late November but a three-team deal fell through. He went so far as to travel to Arlington to undergo a physical and to meet with Rangers officials. Hes not hung up on it. "Luckily I had some time to kind of let that sink in and its gone and Im done thinking about it," said Santos. Santos missed almost four months of last season due to surgery to remove bone spurs from his pitching elbow. In 24 appearances from his August 1 return onward, Santos posted a 1.69 ERA and a miniscule 0.516 WHIP over 21 1/3 innings. He limited opposing batters to a .327 OPS. Put simply, he was dominant. In the final guaranteed year of his deal and with year over year club options through 2017 ($6 million in 2015, $8 million in 2016, $8.75 million in 2017), hes a prime candidate to be moved because the bullpen is considered a position of strength and others, like Steve Delabar, have years of club control remaining. "I think there are two sides that you can look at it, as other teams really want you or you can dwell on the fact that the team youre on is trying to trade you," said Santos. "At the end of the day Alex and everybody with the Blue Jays is trying to make the Blue Jays as good of a team as they can in 2014. "Whether Im in those plans or not, like I said thats not in my control. Would I like to be? Of course." JANSSEN PROGRESSING Closer Casey Janssen, dealing with stiffness in the back of his pitching shoulder, played catch on Monday and woke up feeling good on Tuesday. Hes hoping to throw a bullpen session soon, although there isnt a schedule yet. "Just with yesterday, see how it is today and then I think we can start preparing a plan but weve got to crawl before we can walk here," said Janssen. "Well get there. Im not worried about the bullpens and stuff like that.dddddddddddd All I really care about is feeling healthy and if Im healthy it comes back quick." Janssen was limited in Grapefruit League play last season as he recovered from shoulder surgery. He pitched successfully through pain for much of the year, notching a career high 34 saves, a 2.56 ERA and a 0.987 WHIP. NAVARRO, IZTURIS CONCERNED FOR FAMILY BACK HOME Former Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez died last March 5. On the one-year anniversary of his passing and with political unrest on the rise in their homeland, Blue Jays Dioner Navarro and Maicer Izturis spend a lot of time worrying about family. "Its so frustrating," said Navarro. "Thank God theyre doing all good. Theyve been through so much and its just sad and frustrating at the same time. I know if we keep on praying and staying strong, eventually things have to change." Navarro grew up a block away from the presidential residence in Caracas, known as Casa Blanca (White House). His parents, Frank and Rosa, and his youngest brother Darrel still live in the home. With a family of his own and business interests in the Tampa area, Navarro hasnt returned to Venezuela since 2009. He flies his family to the United States as often as possible. Izturis hails from Barquisimeto, about a four-hour drive from the capital, Caracas. His wife and children are with him and his brother, former Blue Jay Cesar, is in Kissimmee attending the Astros camp, but the rest of his family remains in the midst of the protests, which have fanned out across Venezuela. Its a chore just to get groceries. "You can go but they drive very quick," said Izturis. "You go to the supermarket and try to find out what you need. You need to go quick, boom, boom, and thats no life, you know?" Both players believe political change is coming to Venezuela. Theyre hoping it comes at limited cost. "Its such a beautiful country," said Navarro. "Weve got so much to offer to not only ourselves but to the world. We keep on praying God is going to do something really good for us." CAMP CUTS The Blue Jays trimmed their major league roster by three, to 55, by reassigning catchers Derrick Chung and Jack Murphy and pitcher Luis Perez to minor league camp. Perez, who underwent Tommy John elbow surgery in August, 2012, suffered a setback in his recovery late last season and has experienced numbness in the pinky finger of his pitching hand this spring. Perez is out of options but is a certainty to begin the season on the disabled list. Hell continue his rehabilitation in minor league camp, which opened on Wednesday.
