BENSALEM, Pa. -- Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome will return to racing in September, when the colt is set to run in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby. He has been idle since finishing fourth in the Belmont Stakes on June 7, ending a six-race winning streak and hopes for the sports first Triple Crown winner since 1978. Trainer Art Sherman told philly.com on Thursday that he plans to use the Pennsylvania Derby on Sept. 20 as a tuneup for the $5 million Breeders Cup Classic at Santa Anita in November. California Chrome spent five weeks resting on a California farm after the grueling Triple Crown campaign. He has returned to training at his home track of Los Alamitos in Orange County. Mike McGlinchey Jersey . On paper, it looks a little like Andre the Giant taking on a midget wrestler. It has all the makings of a rout with the Americans adding an eighth win in nine outings of this biennial event. The Yanks have eight players in the top 15 in the world while the Internationals have just one. Kentavius Street Jersey . The alley-oop looked easy -- just like everything else after halftime for the Miami Heat. James scored 32 points, Wade added 22 points and eight assists, and the Heat trailed by 11 early in the second half before running away to a 107-88 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Tuesday night. http://www.49ersfanaticproshop.com/tarva...49ers-jersey/.Y. -- The New York Islanders were merely content with a lopsided victory. Jimmie Ward 49ers Jersey . The native of Mont-Tremblant, Que., captured a World Cup downhill event Saturday, his second this year and fifth career victory on the circuit. San Francisco 49ers Jerseys . So far, so good: Gonzalez has allowed one run through 12 innings this season. His second start came Tuesday night, when he gave up only three singles over six innings to lead the Nationals to a 5-0 victory over the Miami Marlins.INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Luol Deng has never once forgotten home. He has spent much of his adult life trying to give back to his native South Sudan, the war-torn African nation the Cavaliers forward and his family fled when he was a young boy. And while Dengs contributions have touched many, he knows the work will never end. "I wish I could wake up tomorrow and nobody needs help," Deng said. "But we all know thats not going to happen. Im just happy to be in the position that Im in to be able to do the things that Im able to do." On Tuesday, Deng was commended for his compassion and dedication when he was named the winner of the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, given annually to an NBA player, coach or trainer for outstanding community service. Deng has had a long commitment to philanthropic work in South Sudan, which gained independence in 2011 but has been ravaged by ethnic violence. The two-time All-Star, who came to Cleveland in a trade from Chicago in January, recently recorded a public service announcement for EnoughProject.org, urging peace in his homeland. In a video directed at the nations youth, Deng says, "Look around you, and reach out. Make peace among those who are fighting. Forgive one another and encourage others to forgive. Build trust with people who fear each other. You are young, and if you are wise, you will build bridges with people your age that will last a lifetime." The video is a small sample of Dengs attempts to help others. The 29-year-old also has established The Luol Deng Foundation, a global non-profit organization using basketball as a platform to bring hope to those less fortunate in Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States. His work in Africa has focused on the construction of outdoor courts and initiatives to bring together local communities. His charity work in the U.S. has been focused primarily on his two NBA homes -- Chicago and Cleveland. He has funded holiday evennts in the cities, providing meals and toys to the needy.dddddddddddd. He has served as a mentor to the "Lost Boys of Sudan" and supported the NBAs "Basketball Without Borders" program. Deng is the third Cleveland player to win the award, joining Austin Carr (1979-80) and Eric Snow (2004-05). He also joins an illustrious list of past winners, including Dave Bing, Isiah Thomas, Julius Erving, Magic Johnson, Dikembe Mutombo, David Robinson, Kevin Garnett and Steve Nash. The award is named after the leagues second commissioner. Dengs journey to pro stardom is almost unbelievable. One of nine children, he and his family left Sudan and lived as refugees in Egypt before going to England. Cavs coach Mike Brown was fully aware of Dengs background before the forward came to Cleveland. Brown was thrilled that Deng was honoured. "Its well-deserved," Brown said after practice. "From what hes come from and his life experience is off the charts. He told me about it and I was touched. To see where he is now, and for him to know my job is not done, I was one of the fortunate ones. Because of where I am, I have a platform to help bring awareness for others. "Its a remarkable thing. I dont know how he does it. You applaud him. Obviously, you applaud his parents for raising him the way they did. Its an amazing story. I would be surprised if his life story doesnt turn into a Hollywood movie deal someday. Its that special." Deng finds greater reward in helping others. "Its one of those things when I talk to my parents about it, theyll be very proud," said Deng, who has been slowed by a sore back. "I dont have any kids, but its one of those things where, when you have a kid and your kid calls home and tells the parents what award he won, theyll be proud that theyve done a good job. "Its all about helping other people and just doing what makes you happy in life." HAMPTON, Ga. -- Kasey Kahnes "downer" year received an important boost when he overcame his struggles with restarts with a big power move when he needed it the most. Kahne charged past Matt Kenseth and Denny Hamlin in a two-lap shootout to win the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday night. Kahnes first win of the season earned him a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup. "I struggle with restarts a lot and thats big," Kahne said. "Thats one of the things you have to be good at. It worked really well tonight." Meanwhile, Tony Stewarts much-anticipated return to racing ended a little more than halfway through the race. Stewart hit the wall for the second time after his right front tire blew out on Lap 172, ending his night with a 41st-place finish. Kahne took his third career win in Atlanta and his first win of the season. "Weve had kind of a downer year at times," Kahne said. Kenseth, who finished second, also qualified for the Chase on points. He began the second restart in first place, but couldnt stop the charge from Kahne. "I was able to get alongside him and get a good run down the back stretch," Kenseth said. "... I got back to the gas as soon as I could. I just didnt have enough muscle to clear him." Hamlin was third, followed by Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards and Danica Patrick. It was Stewarts first race since the sprint car he was driving struck and killed 20-year-old Kevin Ward Jr. in an Aug. 9 race at a dirt track in upstate New York. The fatal wreck is still under investigation. With only two laps remaining and Kahne holding a solid lead over Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Busch collided, forcing a caution flag and the first shootout. Harvick, who led 195 laps, had contact with Joey Logano in heavy traffic and hit the wall on the restart, bringing another caution flag and a second shootout. Kahne, who had four fresh tires, started behind Kenseth and Hamlin on the final restart. "I felt better about the first restart because the outside lane was really slick and I hardly spun the tires," Kenseth said. "I felt really good about that. The second one I didnt feel nearly as good about. (Kahne) was behind me. They had so much speed. They drove right up between me and Denny." Harvick, who also won the Nationwide Series race on Saturday night, started from the pole and led the first 80 laps, but was denied his attempt for a weekend sweep. Logano, who won last week at Bristol, finished 14th. Stewarts problems started when he went into the wall earlier in the race following a collision with Kyle Busch. Kenseth began the night fifth in the points race, but was not yet locked into the Chase because he had no wins. Kenseth needed to finish seventh or better to secure his place in the playoffs. After leading the final 159 laps of his dominant Nationwide series win on Saturday night, Harvick resumed his mastery of the Atlanta Motor Speedway track. Starting from his series-leading sixth pole of the season, Harvick led the first 80 laps, giving him a combined 239 consecutive laps led at the track over two races. Hamlin passed Harvick for the lead after Jeff Gordon, who had been second, blew a tire and slid into the wall on turn 3 on the 78th lap, forcing a yellow flag. Stewart started 12th and opened strong, moving up to sixth in the first five laps. Driving high on the track, three-wide at times, he made two more passes to move to fourth a few laps later. He fell back to 12th before his first big setback. Busch, attempting to move to the top of the track, cut in front of Stewart, forcing Stewart into the wall. After two visits to pit row for repairs, Stewart didnt last long. Only 50 laps later, he hit the wall on turn 2 after his right front tire blew. This time he drove his more heavily damaged car to the garage, and his race was over. Brad Keselowski was fourth when a collision with Josh Wise ended his night with 28 laps remaining. Ty Dillon, making his Sprint Cup debut, finished 25th. Harvick had a scare early in the race when a small animal ran across the track in front of his car. He told his crew a cat ran across the track, but later it was discovered to be a squirrel, which was found hiding near turn 3. Rashaan Melvin Raiders Jersey . Hamilton signed offensive linemen Mike Filer, Joel Reinders, Landon Rice and Carson Rockhill. Now that was ugly. No, not the thrashing the Europeans gave to the Americans at the Ryder Cup. That was a strong performance by the defending champions, but it was more or less expected. They came in as favourites and delivered. The ugly part was what came after, when Phil Mickelson threw a string of verbal Molotov cocktails into the smoking wreckage of the U.S. team. Lefty, reportedly still pouting after being sent to the bench for all of Saturday, used the final press conference to push Tom Watson off the edge of the cliff, saying his system didnt work and that players werent consulted. At the very least, this wasnt a stab in the back. Mickelson lobbed his bombs while sitting at the same table as Watson. If you ever wondered why the Americans have trouble pulling together to win one of these things, Exhibit A is now up for viewing. Yes, he was answering questions, but it was a classless, heartless move by Mickelson, against a guy who merely tried to find a way to get 12 players who were underperforming to win points. Watson took the high road in response, as did Jim Furyk, when he was asked his opinion. Mickelson should have done the same, and got on his plane and headed home. Alone. Ryder Cups arent won by the captains; theyre won by the players and the Americans simply stunk as a whole. Perhaps there were a few things Watson ccould have done differently.dddddddddddd He might have sat Mickelson and Keegan Bradley on Friday afternoon, then brought them back on Saturday for one or two sessions. Or he might have asked the golfers who they wanted as a partner, although it seemed the pairings went pretty much to form. No, the real reason the Americans lost is because they were awful. Bubba Watson went 0-3. Matt Kuchar and Jim Furyk both went 1-3. Zach Johnson managed a half-point. Rickie Fowler, in two Ryder Cups, is still looking for his first win. No pod system is going to make putts for you or help you hit fairways. Even if you get the team invested, you still have to play stunning golf to beat Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Justin Rose. What Mickelsons comments do is turn what could have been a graceful defeat into an ugly ending. They fan the flames of a lack of team atmosphere, about discussions of dissension or, at the very least, individualism rather than cohesiveness. All that fun on the ping-pong table in the team room now seems rather shallow. Perhaps Tom Watson wasnt the right choice as captain and maybe his style wasnt right. But to carve him up in front of the press – including those genteel tabloid types of the U.K. – was simply not right. I know one thing for certain: I wouldnt want Phil Mickelson as my captain down the road. SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- With go-to scorer Dirk Nowitzki having an off night, the Dallas Mavericks relied on other offensive options to hold off the Sacramento Kings. Monta Ellis scored eight of his 23 points in the fourth quarter and the Mavericks kept their playoff position with their third straight win, a 93-91 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday. The Mavericks won for the fourth time in five games to maintain seventh place in the Western Conference. It was the fifth straight road win for Dallas, which concludes its four-game road trip Tuesday in Utah. "Every game is a playoff game right now," Dallas reserve centre DeJuan Blair said. The Kings defeated Dallas at home earlier this season and their three straight losses have been by a combined nine points. So with Nowitzki getting 15 points on 5-of-17 shooting, the Mavericks had to look elsewhere for a reliable scorer. It was Ellis who stepped up in a tight fourth quarter. He made a crucial 3-pointer and converted all three free throws when Dallas was clinging to its slim lead down the stretch. Ellis made a 3 at the 3:04 mark of the fourth quarter and converted a three-point play to give the Mavericks a 90-84 lead with 1:51 left. "Monta saved the day in the fourth quarter," Nowitzki said. "He made that huge 3 and then he had the and-one (three-point play) on a pick and roll. He was phenomenal in the fourth quarter." Rudy Gay had 32 points and tied a career high with eight assists for the Kings, DeMarcus Cousins added 28 points and 10 rebounds, and rookie point guard Ray McCallum had eight points and nine rebounds. The Kings played their sixth straight game without starting point guard Isaiah Thomas (right quadriceps contusion), who is averaging 20.7 points and 6.4 assists per game. "The Kings match up tough against us," said Blair, who had six points and nine rebounds in 17 minutes. "They have played us three tough games." Vince Carter scored 17 points and Jose Calderon hit four 3-pointers and added 14 points for the Mavericks, who made 13 threes. Nowitzki, who shot 64 per cent and averaged 28.7 points in his previous three games, missed eight of his first 10 shots. Following a timeout early in the third quarter, Nowitzki hit a 19-footer and soon after made a 3-pointer. "Obviously, their backs are up against the wall right now. They know they need every game they can get to get into the post-season," Gay said. "We went into this game knowing that we didnt have anything to lose. They are going to play a lot of teams that dont have anything to lose. For them to stay competitive, its going to be tough for them." The Kings fouled Ellis intentionally and he made two free throws to put Dallas in front 92-87 with 24 seconds left. McCallums layup and two free throws by Gay pulled the Kings to within one point. But Nowitzki hit one of two foul shots and Cousins was short on a baseline jumper in the closing seconds that would have sent the game to overtime. "I still think we had an opportunity to make something happen," Cousins said. "But I am kind of disappointed in myself for settling for a shot like that. I could have gotten a lot better shot than that." The teams swapped misses before Gays three-point play pulled the Kings within three points with 26 seconds left. Cousins made a driving shot in traffic to put Sacramento ahead 77-75 with 6:51 to go in the fourth. Consecutive 3s by Carter and another by Shawn Marion put Dallas ahead 84-79 with 4:20. Trailing for much of the third quarter, Ellis had three transition baskets and Calderon made a 3 to help Dallas outscore the Kings 11-4 in the final 3:15 to take a 68-65 lead into the fourth. "We knew it was going to be a dog fight, but the good thing is we stayed together," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "The Kings are pretty tough, but we came through. Every game has such a high level of importance. We need to play much better than tonight." NOTES: Cousins had 14 of his 16 first-half points in the first quarter. The Kings led 48-45 at the half. ... Dallas shot 29 per cent in the second quarter and was outscored 24-16. ... Ex-King Peja Stojakovic, a three-time All-Star in Sacramento, sat courtside next to Kings owner Vivek Ranadive. ... The FA said Monday that its membership committee has recommended that the request be rejected following "consultation with stakeholders within and outside of the game." The recommendation has been passed to the FA council, which will vote on it at a meeting on April 9. Hull owner Assem Allam believes a name change will attract investors and boost the clubs marketing appeal abroad. In January, he threatened to quit if the FA turned down his request, saying: "No one on earth is allowed to question my business decisions. I wont allow it." Many Hull fans have reacted angrily to Allams controversial move, unhappy that it removes 109 years of tradition, and have made their feelings known in protests and chants during matches. Allam has injected about 75 million pounds ($125 million) into the club since 2010, when Hull was in the second-tier League Championship and on the brink of financial ruin.dddddddddddd The team secured a surprise return to the Premier League last season but Allams desire for a name change has provoked fury among many fans as well as traditionalists in English football. The backlash intensified when Allam responded to supporters chants and banners of "City Till We Die" by telling a Sunday newspaper: "They can die as soon as they want, as long as they leave the club for the majority who just want to watch good football." Allam has said the word "City" in the name is "redundant" and "irrelevant," and that he would prove to be a trailblazer for clubs changing their names "to something more interesting." "City, Town, County: these are meaningless," he told The Guardian newspaper in September. "In marketing, the shorter the name, the more powerful — think of Coca-Cola, Twitter, Apple." There was no immediate response from Hull or Allam to the decision of the FAs membership committee. LOS ANGELES -- Jordan Farmar scored 13 of his 20 points during a 3:17 span of the fourth quarter, and the Los Angeles Lakers got double-digit scoring from three other reserves en route to a 108-94 preseason victory over the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night. The Lakers starting frontcourt of Pau Gasol, Nick Young and Shawne Williams had nine points each. Los Angeles (3-4) closed with an 11-0 run that included nine free throws, after Utahs Alec Burks cut the margin to 97-94 on a tip-in with 4:52 remaining. The Jazz (1-5), who were the only team in the league last season to finish with a winning record and miss the playoffs, had six players in double figures. Former Laker Brian Cook had 18 points, while Gordon Hayward added 15 and Burks 14. The Lakers, returning from a trip to China in which they lost two games to the Golden State Warriors, overcame an early 12-point deficit and led 51-45 at halftime with 14 points by reserve swingman Wesley Johnson. Derrick Favors, the third overall pick in the 2010 draft -- one spot ahead of Johnson -- missed five of his first six shots and finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds three days after signing a 4-year, $49 million contract extension with the Jazz. Forward Mike Harris, the second player off the Utah bench, picked up his fourth offensive foul and fifth of the game with 4:33 left in the third quarter. He played 12 scoreless minutes. Lakers centre Chris Kaman sat out the game after missing practice the previous two days because of gastrointestinal distress. Kobe Bryant continues to work himself back into playing shape following his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon in April and a troublesome right knee that took him to Germany recently for platelet-rich plasma treatment and acupuncture. The tournaments poster boy with the dyed-blonde fauxhawk fractured a vertebra in his back during Brazils 2-1 quarterfinal victory over Colombia on Friday. The injury has ruled the striker out of the rest of the competition, dealing a massive blow to the teams chances of finally winning a World Cup at home. Brazil advanced to the semifinals for the first time in 12 years, with the goals coming from defenders Thiago Silva and David Luiz. But the jubilation was quickly tempered when Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said Neymar broke his third vertebrae and is expected to be out for several weeks, ruling him out of Tuesdays semifinal match against Germany in Belo Horizonte. "Its a situation that leaves us in a difficult position for the match against Germany," Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari said. "But we have great players and if I have to change something I will do it and we will be OK." The 22-year-old Neymar has been the focal point of both the Brazilian team and the entire World Cup, and he lived up to expectations with four goals in the first three matches. But he took a knee to the back late in the match against Colombia at the Arena Castelao in a collision with Juan Camilo Zuniga. The Brazilian star was crying in pain as he was carried off the field, and was taken to a private clinic. He has since been released. "He will not be in condition to play, he will need a few weeks to be fit again," said Lasmar, the team doctor. "He is very, very sad." The foul on Neymar came toward the end of one of the dirtiest games of the tournament as Brazil committed 31 fouls and Colombia had 23. Brazil will also be without Silva for Tuesdays match against Germany. The captain must sit out after getting his second yellow card of the tournament after impeding Colombia goalkeeper David Ospina. Brazil, which is trying to become the first host to win the World Cup since France in 1998, had been eliminated in the quartterfinals at the last two tournaments.dddddddddddd The "Selecao" lost to the Netherlands in the quarterfinals in 2010 and to France in 2006 after winning its fifth title in 2002. Back in 1950, Brazil needed only a draw in the final match to win the World Cup, but the team lost to Uruguay in a match known as the "Maracanazo." This time around, Brazil won its group and then beat Chile on penalties in the second round. On Friday against Colombia, Silva gave Brazil the lead in the seventh minute, scoring with his left knee after a corner from Neymar passed through the Colombian defence. He celebrated the goal by pointing to the emblem on his jersey and shouting, "This is Brazil, this is Brazil." Luiz added the second from a free kick in the 69th, side-footing a long-range shot into the top of the net. Colombia got one back in the 80th. James Rodriguez scored his tournament-leading sixth goal from the penalty spot after Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar brought down substitute Carlos Bacca inside the area. Rodriguez tried to control the pace of the match, but it was Brazil that created most of the scoring chances as Ospina had to make a series of saves in the first half alone. The Colombians tried to pressure after Rodriguezs late penalty, but Brazil held on with solid defending. Colombia, playing at the World Cup for the first time since 1998 and in the quarterfinals for the first time ever, had entered the match after scoring 11 goals, second only to the Netherlands. "After not playing in the World Cup for so long, we were able to show the value of the Colombian football and the talent of some of our players," said Colombia coach Jose Pekerman, an Argentine. "They showed great spirit and presence of mind. They came to play a great World Cup, not just to participate." There was a lot of talk about Rodriguez and Neymar before the match, but the 22-year-old forwards didnt really deliver in Fortaleza. Rodriguez scored the late penalty but was otherwise mostly ineffective, as was Neymar before he left on a stretcher. Hundreds of thousands of visitors are expected to descend on New Jersey for the Feb. 2 football game. Many believe the states sprawling highway system, proximity to New York City and diverse population make it an attractive base of operations for traffickers. "New Jersey has a huge trafficking problem," said U.S. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., who is co-chairman of the House anti-human trafficking caucus. "One Super Bowl after another after another has shown itself to be one of the largest events in the world where the cruelty of human trafficking goes on for several weeks." Law enforcement in New Jersey has worked for years to battle forced prostitution. The state strengthened its human trafficking law in early 2013, but it hit a roadblock in August when a federal judge ruled that a portion of the law that pertains to commercial sex ads posted online may conflict with federal legislation. The state is appealing. There are scant statistics and much debate over how much sex trafficking increases during a Super Bowl or other large sporting event, but its been enough of a concern to prompt New Jersey and previous Super Bowl host cities to pay attention to it. Danielle Douglas, a speaker and advocate who identifies herself as a sex-trafficking survivor, said any major sporting event attracts sex traffickers looking to make money. "The Super Bowl is a huge, huge arena for sex trafficking," Douglas said. Some visitors "are coming to the Super Bowl not even to watch football -- they are coming to the Super Bowl to have sex with women, and/or men or children." Soon after the announcement that the 2014 Super Bowl would be held at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey officials set up training for legions of law enforcement personnel, hospitality workers, high school students, airport employees and others on identifying the signs of sex trafficking. Local houses of worship are handing out fliers notifying congregants of warning signs, and truckers are being trained to look for people -- mostly women but also men -- who may be held against their will. Sex trafficking, to be prosecuted as such, must involve -- unlike prostitution -- not only a buyer and seller of sex but also a pimp or trafficker controlling the transaction, according to the New Jersey attorney generals office. Officials are also warning the public to watch for people who are forced into labour and individual pimps exerting control over young women and men who are oftentimes underage. "Weve enlisted, basically, every service provider that people coming to the Super Bowl are going to run into," Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman said. "There are a lot of eyes that are going to be on their activities and going to be on spotting potential victims of this crime." The Super Bowl task force convened by Hoffmans office is composed of state, local and federal law enforcement officers, community groups, social workers and others. Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said ads are starting to pop up on Internet sites and law enforcement officials are gleaning information from them. "When youre about ready to have 400,000 men come tto this area of the country," Molinelli said, "youre invariably going to have more people try to take advantage of that by providing prostitutes and prostitution.dddddddddddd" The National Football League said it shares law enforcement concerns and supports strong anti-human trafficking laws. The NFLs security department hosted a meeting in September with law enforcement officials who combat human trafficking and child prostitution. "We work closely with federal, state and local law enforcement to ensure that the Super Bowl is a safe environment for the host community and the fans who enjoy the game and the celebration," NFL Spokesman Brian McCarthy said in a statement. Similar concerns had been expressed before the 2013 Super Bowl in New Orleans, McCarthy noted, but the NFL was "pleased to learn that the grave concerns about human trafficking and prostitution were not realized," thanks to law enforcement. Officials in Texas, Louisiana and Indiana strengthened efforts to combat sex trafficking ahead of previous Super Bowls. In Arizona, which will host the 2015 Super Bowl, U.S. Sen. John McCains wife, Cindy, has been speaking out, calling the Super Bowl the "largest human-trafficking venue on the planet." It is difficult to ascertain the exact number of trafficking cases in a given year or place because so much of it goes unreported. In 2012, the Polaris Project, a non-profit that works to combat human trafficking, received 20,652 calls reporting trafficking to its hotline, 330 of which were from New Jersey, CEO Bradley Myles said. "The overall size of the phenomenon in the United States is much more significant than statistics show," Myles said. Polaris plans to add additional staffers to the hotline in February, but the organization has seen only a modest uptick in calls during previous Super Bowls, Myles said. In December, Kathleen Friess led a two-hour presentation in Hamilton Township for hotel and nightclub employees and tried to dispel notions of what human trafficking looks like. Often, Friess said, its a local woman forced into sex work by a man she initially thought had romantic intentions. Other times, its a woman from another country whose family is threatened. Friess told the employees to look for women who may not be in control, who look frightened and may exhibit signs of physical abuse. Victims are often runaways, the impoverished, abuse victims or those living in the country illegally, she said. "You guys are at that front line, seeing them coming and going," Friess said. "Youre in a position to prevent human trafficking." Ronald Moore, the security manager at the Grand Summit Hotel in Summit, said he plans to replicate the presentation for his staff. A former police officer, Moore said the hotel has been preparing for the possibility of crime during Super Bowl week. "Youre going to have the potential for everything from stolen goods to assault to check fraud. Everything you can imagine is going to be happening," he said. "You have to be aware." Jane Wells, a filmmaker who recently released "Tricked," a documentary about human trafficking, said she wants law enforcement to focus on the crime all the time, not just around sporting events. "This is a 365-day-a-year problem," Wells said. CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- With 3 1/2 minutes left and Duke trying to close out its first road win in the conference this season, superstar spectator LeBron James was on his feet -- to leave. The Blue Devils made it routine. Freshman Jabari Parker had 17 points and a season-high 15 rebounds Wednesday to lead No. 18 Duke past Miami 67-46. A sellout crowd included James, Dwyane Wade and Kobe Bryant, all of whom played in the Olympics for Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski. James and Wade sat in the first row across from the Blue Devils bench, and Krzyzewski said they caught his eye after Parker scored on a strong inside move. "You could see LeBron and Dwyane go nuts, because thats was a big-time play," Krzyzewski said. "Those are great guys, and I appreciate them coming." Parker, who visited briefly before the game with Wade, said he was also pleased to have the celebrity audience. "Its a blessing to get their support, to see those superstars give support to the little guys," Parker said. Parker helped the Blue Devils to a 42-28 advantage on the boards, which allowed them to overcome a poor shooting night. Duke outscored Miami 22-7 on second-chance points. "Im a little bit -- maybe a lot -- surprised by the way we played," Hurricanes coach Jim Larranaga said. "We were like deer in the headlights with all the attention this game got, and all the celebrities that showed up. I think we froze in that environment." The Blue Devils (15-4, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) avenged a 27-point loss the last time they played in Coral Gables. That was a year ago, when Duke was ranked No. 1. "Because of last years embarrassment for the program, we just wanted to redeem ourselves," Parker said. Duke improved to 1-2 in the league on the road after losing at Notre Dame and Clemson. The Blue Devils are 4-4 away from home overall. Theyve won their past two games by a combined 56 points. Krzyzewski earned his 899th win at Duke, which leaves the NCAA mens career leader in victories one shy of joining Syracuses Jim Boeheim with at least 900 wins at one school. Defending conference champion Miami (10-8, 2-4) remained winless in three league games at home. The Hurricanes will try to bounce back Saturday, when they play host to No. 2 Syracuse. "Its really a matter of effort," Larranaga said. "Weve got to play harder." A grinning Wade amused the crowd at halftime by taking some shots from half court, including several with his back to the basket. He went 0 for 6, and the home team didnt fare much better. A methodical pace should have been to Miamis liking, but while Duke made only eight of 25 3-pointers, the offensively challenged Hurricanes were even worse. They went 2 for 10 from behind the arc and shot 35 per cent overall. Donnavan Kirk led Miami with 11 points. Rodney Hood had 12 points and six rebounds for Duke, while Amile Jefferson added eight points and seven rebounds. But the biggest force on the boards was the 6-foot-8 Parker, who had six of Dukes 15 offensive rebounds. He also blocked three shots. "Hes a long way from dominating," Krzyzewski said. "Hes in a process of getting better. The potential is there to be an outstanding player, and he was really good tonight." Miami stayed close for most of the first half, in part because Duke missed nine consecutive 3-point shots. But the Blue Devils forced three turnovers during an 11-0 run near the end of the half, and they led 33-21 at halftime. Duke then scored the first six points of the second half to take command. When Miami cut the margin to 47-35, Parker converted a three-point play and Rasheed Sulaimon sank a 3-pointer to restore Dukes comfortable cushion. A dunk by Hood with 3 1/2 minutes left gave the Blue Devils their first 20-point lead. At that point, James -- and many other spectators -- headed for the exits. The Blue Devils stayed in the lead early by hitting the boards hard. Of their first 17 points, 14 came following offensive rebounds. "We didnt have that much effort as a team," Miami centre Tonye Jekiri said. "The aggressiveness wasnt there going for the rebound." TORONTO - An uncharacteristic off night from the teams most dependable player proved costly for the Toronto Raptors on Monday night. And after dropping a 114-111 decision to the sizzling-hot Detroit Pistons, Kyle Lowry beat himself up a little in the post-game dressing room.Lowry committed seven turnovers on a night that saw the Raptors commit 19, and he took just three shots through three quarters to finish with 10 points. Was it the pressure being applied by Detroit?Naw, Lowry said. It was more me, more me not being aggressive. The loss spoiled a career-high 31-point performance from Jonas Valanciunas, who also grabbed 12 rebounds. Seven players scored in double figures for Toronto (25-12), with Greivis Vasquez notching 16, Lou Williams adding 15, Amir Johnson and Terrence Ross finishing with 12 apiece, James Johnson scoring 11, and Lowry finishing with 10 to go with 12 assists. That was uncharacteristic of (Lowry), that was one of those tough games for him, said Raptors coach Dwane Casey. To have seven turnovers is very strange for him. Youre going to have nights like that but, again, weve got to make sure we back him up and take care of the ball.Brandon Jennings had 34 points to top the Pistons (14-24), who won their sixth straight on the road, and ninth in their last 11 games. The Raptors were outscored 25-16 on second-chance points, and sent the Pistons to the free-throw line 31 times — while going to the line just 14 times themselves. But the Pistons, who as Casey said pre-game have been clicking on all cylinders, gave up just seven points on eight turnovers. The turnovers were the huge thing in this game, thats what decided this game, said Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy. We took care of the ball and thats the only thing that really gave us a shot to win that game. The Raptors had defeated the Pistons 110-100 in Detroit on Dec. 19, but the Michigan teams record was third worst in the league at the time. Three days after that victory, the Pistons waived Josh Smith, and have been one of the NBAs hottest teams ever since.Casey likened them to last seasons Raptors team after the Rudy Gay trade. The Raptors, who snapped a four-game losing skid with their 109-96 victory over Boston on Saturday, led for a good chunk of the first three quarters, and were up by as much as 14 points in the first half. The Pistons came roaring back in the third, and cut the Raptors advantage to just 83-82 with a quarter left to play.Lowry followed up a driving layup with a pair of free throws to put the Raptors up by four points with 3:39 to play, but couldnt put any more distance on their visitors. Back-to-back buckets from Jonas Jerebko gave the Pistons a three-point lead with 1:29 to play, and then after a mad scramble for the ball and with the shot-clock at nearly zero on Detroits next possession, Jodie Meeks drained a three-pointer to put the Pistons up by four.Back breaker. It was a back breaker, Lowry said of Meekss shot. Everyone committed to the ball and they got it out and he hit a tough shot.Lowry, whos poised to make his first NBA all-star team, replied with a three with 43 seconds left, making it a one-point game and bringing the capacity crowd of 19,800 fans at Air Canada Centre to their feet. But the Raptors point guard missed with seven seconds left, and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope connected on two free throws to give Detroit the win.We shot ourselves in the foot, Casey said. For whatever reason, we had the break going, we had our pace going but we were forcing a lot of passes. If you commit that many turnovers against a good team like that, you shoot yourself in the foot and thats what we did.The coachs message to the team after the game?On to the next one, said Patrick Patterson. We let it slip through our fingers, had a great first half and second half was just horrendous. Only thing we can do now is focus on the next game. The next one is Wednesday, when the Raptors host Philadelphia. They host the Eastern Conference-leading Atlanta Hawks on Friday, then cap this six-game homestand on Sunday against the New Orleans Pelicans. The game marked the 21st straight without DeMar DeRozan, who had originally targeted last Thursday for his return, but had then predicted hed play some time this week. When asked pre-game about a potential return of his all-star guard, Casey wouldnt say. The Raptors, whove been plagued by slow starts, came out of the opening whistle at full speed, with Valanciunas leading the way with 14 points, and Lowry doling out nine assists — just two shy of the club record for a quarter, held by Doug Christie. Lowry found Valanciunas for an alley-oop dunk that put the Raptors up by 12 midway through the quarter, and they took a 32-20 lead into the second. Williams led the way with nine points in the second quarter as the Raptors built their lead to 14 points. A floater from Williams with four seconds to play send Toronto into the dressing room at halftime with a 60-48 lead. The Pistons outscored Toronto 34-23 in the third, tying the game with a three by Jennings midway through the quarter. The Raptors remained within four points of Detroit for the rest of the frame, pulling ahead to lead by one with one quarter to play.NOTES: Valanciunass previous career high was 27 points versus the Phoenix Suns on Nov. 24 of this season. . . The urine sample was collected from Choi before March 28, when Major League Baseball and the players union increased the penalty for a first testing violation for PEDs to 80 games. MLB said Thursday that Choi tested positive for methandienone, a controlled substance popular with bodybuilders. The 22-year-old Choi was hitting .394 at Triple-A Tacoma with one homer and five RBIs. Lundqvist made 27 saves to lead the New York Rangers to a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday night, one day after signing a seven-year, $59.5 million contract extension. "It was weird because it was such a big day yesterday, an emotional day for me," Lundqvist said. "And obviously its a proud moment for me to realize theyre willing to commit to me and I want to commit to them. But at the same time, I just couldnt be super happy because you want more wins." The contract will make him the NHLs highest-paid goalie. Lundqvist was hardly troubled through 40 minutes, but was outstanding in the third period. He made 13 saves in the games final 20 minutes, including consecutive breakaway stops on Cody Hodgson and Steve Ott. "He made some really big saves," said Rangers coach Alain Vigneault, whose team improved to 15-14. "Hes an elite goaltender that comes up big at the right time and certainly helped us win tonight." New York also got production from its star forwards, with Rick Nash and Brad Richards scoring goals. "There were some pressure moments in the game and our big guys came up big," Vigneault said. Mats Zuccarello also scored and added an assist as the Rangers bounced back from a 5-2 loss to Winnipeg on Monday. Tyler Ennis scored and Ryan Miller made 28 saves in a loss that dropped the Sabres to 3-12-1 at the First Niagara Center. Lundqvist made four quick saves in under a minute early in the period, including close-range stops on Mark Pysyk and Ott. He then stopped two breakaways in as many minutes. First, Hodgson used a burst of speed to earn a breakaway, but Lundqvist used his right pad to stop Hodgsons backhand attempt. Then, he stopped Otts forehand. "I think for a goalie you just have to be there when mistakes happen," Lundqvist said. "Theyre gonna happen and I felt like they were taking more chances in the third to kind of get going so I knew I had to be ready, but it felt really good." Ennis spoiled Lundqvists shutout bid at the 17:54 mark of the third, the Sabres first goal on Lundqvist in 118 minutes of play. New York opened the scoring on a higghlight-reel goal from Nash.dddddddddddd Derek Stepan tapped Ryan McDonaghs two-line pass to Nash at the Sabres blue line. Nash darted past Tyler Myers, drawing Miller across the goal before reaching back to tuck the puck around the goaltenders right skate and into the net. "I was just faking the wide pole and hoping hed bite on the backhand and hopefully thered be something open there," said Nash on his fifth goal, leaving him one point away from 600 for his career. Marcus Foligno came close to tying the score with 15:53 gone in the second period, but his wrist shot from distance was saved from the top corner by Lundqvists glove. The Sabres opened the third period on the power play, but their struggling unit could barely enter the Rangers zone -- let alone record a shot on goal -- and has just one goal in its past 13 chances and two in 20. The Rangers gave themselves a cushion with a power-play goal from Richards at the 8:29 mark of the third. Richards later added an assist and has points in his past five games. Miller stopped 20 of 21 shots in the first two periods before allowing two late goals just one day after Buffalo interim head coach Ted Nolan said he wanted to build around the goaltender, who will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. Nolan was frustrated that the teams intensity, as the Sabres have struggled to find consistency during their worst start in franchise history. "Sometimes we show it, sometimes we dont," said Nolan, who is 2-6-1 since taking over for Ron Rolston. "Thats been the common theme since Ive been here. We try to find that button to push to say, Lets do it not sometimes but all the time." New York is 14-2 when scoring first, and 1-12 when allowing the games first goal. McDonagh had two assists, giving him points in five straight as well. NOTES: The Sabres announced that C Mikhail Grigorenko will be loaned to the Russian mens national junior team beginning Sunday for the world junior championships in Malmo, Sweden. ... CHICAGO -- Manny being Manny has been a positive so far for the Chicago Cubs. President of baseball operations Theo Epstein praised Manny Ramirez on Friday for his work with the Cubs minor leaguers in Arizona, and said the former major league star could join Triple-A Iowa next week. Ramirez signed a minor league deal in May and reported to the teams facility in Mesa to get some at-bats in extended spring training. When Ramirez moves to Iowa, he will be a player-coach for Chicagos top farm club. "Ive gotten unsolicited emails and texts from a lot of the staff down there saying that hes been a breath of fresh air and the best thing that ever happened to the kids down in Mesa," Epstein said before the Cubs 6-3 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates. "So Im really pleased with the impact hes making on the organization. "Probably sometime next week that hes ready to go to Iowa, but were not in a rush because hes making an impact with the young kids down there who are getting their first taste of pro ball as well as guys like Jorge Soler, who are there rehabbing. Mannys been a really nice influence so far." The 42-year-old Ramirez is a .312 hitter with 555 home runs in 2,302 games covering 19 major league seasons. But the Cubs brought him in to serve as a mentor for some of their young players and insist he is not a candidate for a promotion to the major league club. The addition of Ramirez was a bit of a gamble for Epstein, who was the general manager in Boston when the enigmatic slugger helped the Red Sox win the World Series in 2004 and 2007. Ramirez was suspended for 50 games in 2009 while with the Los Angeles Dodgers after testing positive for a banned drug. He retired in April 2011 instead of serving a 100-game ban for a second positive test while with Tampa Bay, but later agreed to a reduced 50-game suspension and played in the minors for Oakland in 2012. He also has been criticized in the past for lackadaisical play, but Epstein thinks he can be a valuable teacher for Chicagos rich minor league system. "Hes been meeting with the young kids there daily, pulling them aside, talking about hitting, talking about not making some of the same mistakes that he made off the field, really keeping them focused on working hard and having a passion for the game and doing things the right way," Epstein said. When Ramirez gets to Iowa, he will get a chance to work one of the majors best prospects in third baseman Kris Bryant. The No. 2 overall selection in last years draft hit .355 with 20 homers in 68 games with Double-A Tennessee, and then belted a two-run shot in his debut with Iowa on Thursday night. The promotion to Triple-A means Bryant is just one step away from joining the Cubs, but Epstein made it sound as if that would be next season at the earliest. "I dont forsee a scenario where hed be up this year," he said. "I dont think its the right thing to do for someone in his first full professional season, barring extraordinary circumstances both in respect to the player and whats going on at the big league club." Epstein also is pleased with what he has seen so far from this years first-round pick, Kyle Schwarber. The No. 4 overall selection from Indiana University was quickly promoted from Chicagos short-season Class A affiliate in Boise, Idaho, to Single-A Kane County. There is some question about whether Schwarber will play catcher or left field in the pros, but it looks as if that decision can wait for now. "We decided this year, his first exposure to pro ball, were going to have him see a lot of time in left field, let him catch about once a week, maybe twice a week, so he can stay fresh with his catching, DH some so that he can keep his bat in the lineup when he needs a day off," Epstein said. "Then were going to sit down at the end of the minor league season and see whether its an appropriate time to make a call." Brandon Parker Raiders Jersey . TORONTO -- The Canadian Football League has imposed its maximum fine on Montreal Alouettes linebacker Kyries Hebert following an illegal and extremely dangerous tackle while trying to dislodge the football from his opponent. Hebert was penalized on the play and ejected from the game. "We are committed to fostering a culture of health and safety in all we do as a league, including the standards we set through player discipline," said Mark Cohon, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League. A hearing took place earlier today that included Hebert, representation from Canadian Football League Players Association (CFLPA), and representation from the CFL including Cohon. Following the hearing and after reviewing the play on video from every available angle, the Commissioner has decided to impose the highest fine allowed under its collective bargaining agreement with the CFLPA, the equivalent of half of a players game cheque. The CFL also announced today the following discipline arising out of Week One of play: Edmonton Eskimo Thaddeus Coleman has been fined for hitting an opponent (with his arm) in the back of the head. Calgary Stampeder Corey Mace has been fined for delivering a punch. Saskatchewan Roughrider Rob Bagg has been fined for delivering a punch. Hamilton Tiger-Cat Craig Butler has been fined for using his helmet to deliver a blow to an opponents helmet. As per league policy, fine amounts are not disclosed. The deal was announced before Wednesdays game against Cincinnati. It had been in the works since before general manager Josh Byrnes was fired on June 22 and it came together in the last few days. Smith will make $6 million in 2015 and $6.75 million in 2016. The Padres hold a $7 million option in 2017, or a $250,000 buyout. Smith is making $4.5 million this year. He was obtained in an off-season trade with Oakland. The Padres started the day in third place in the NL West at 37-47, 10 1/2 games behind San Francisco. The Padres havent had a winning season since 2010, when they won 90 games and still missed the playoffs. Since then San Diego has had seasons with 91, 86 and 86 losses. Theyre on their third ownership group since 2009 and the new general manager will be the third since Kevin Towerrs was fired late in the 2009 season.dddddddddddd. "I wouldnt have signed if i didnt think we could win now," Smith said. "I think this season has been tough but theres still a lot of season left, theres still a lot of good players here. "Ive been to the playoffs four times and all four times no one thought any of the teams would make the playoffs," added Smith, who reached the post-season twice with Colorado and twice with Oakland. "Ownerships committed to winning and thats what Im all about. That was my first question: Are we going to try to win and try to win now? And the answer was. Yes. So I was like, Im in. Assistant GM A.J. Hinch said talks were "tricky" because of Byrnes firing, but added that Smiths desire to stay with San Diego and ownerships commitment helped overcome that. Hinch is one of three people running the "office of the GM" until the Padres hire a replacement for Byrnes.
